The Young Entrepreneurs' Skills Competition (Yescom) is an event jointly organised by Kesuma and Berita Harian with the support of the Singapore Management University, Venture Clunb. Yescom was the brain child of Mr. Ibrahim Ariff, Kesuma's President. The first press briefing to introduce Yescom was held on 20 April 2005 at Restu Muslim Seafood Restaurant, Changi Road.
The Launch and Briefing Session was later held on 13 May at Wisma Indah, Changi Road. Mr. Mohd. Maidin BPM, former Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Home Affairs and MP for Marine Parade GRC, officiated the Launching of Yescom 2005.
120 students representing 13 secondary schools, 1 primary school, 3 madrasahs and 3 youth organizations took part in the first ever Yescom.
Following the launching was the "Making an Entrepreneurs Seminar' held at SPH Auditorium. Here participants learns the very basic legal aspect of starting a business. The paper was presented by Mr. Suhaimi Lazim, a practicing lawyer from Shook Lin and Bok.
Participants are also taught how to promote and market their products by members of the Singapore Management University, Venture Club.
At the end of the day, the participants sit for a test and marks were given based on their answers,
A week after the seminar, came the "On Job Assignment" This was the first direct contact the participants had with consumers. Their assignment were to pull as much crowd as possible to Fact Software International Pte Ltd. booth at the Singapore Expo. Points were allotted to the participating teams based on the number of crowds they managed to bring to the said booth.
The Grand Finale was held at an open field between Tampines MRT Station and CPF Building in Tampines on 2nd. July 2005. The Guest of Honour was Mr. Zainal Abidin Rasheed, Mayor, South East Singapore District.
The result of the competition was announced at the Awards Presentation Night on 3rd. September 2005 at SPH Auditorium.
To the surprise of everyone, the champion trophy goes to the only primary school took part, Yangzheng Pr. School. The first runner up went to First Toa Payoh Secondary School, followed by Madrasah Al Junied Al Islamiah.
Madrasah Wak Tanjong Al Islamiah, won the Most Dedicated Team Awards.
Yangzheng Primary School continued to win the Champion Trophy for the next two years 2006 and 2007.
Madrasah Al Junied Al Islamiah performed better in 2006 to win the first runner up and maintain the top ten in 2007.
