In 2002, Yashin, one of the most electrifying scorers in the NHL, scored 32 goals and racked up 42 assists, leading the New York Islanders to their first playoff appearance since 1994. The Islanders obtained Yashin from the Ottawa Senators in 2001, sending a first-round pick, Zdeno Chara and Bill Muckalt to the Senators. After Yashin's 1998-99 season with the Senators, he was named a finalist for the Hart Trophy. He slammed home 44 goals and 50 assists that year. Yashin has shown plenty of durability, as well. Between 1996 and 2001, he never missed a game due to injury. He made his NHL debut Oct. 6, 1993 against the Quebec Nordiques and scored his first goal eight days later against the Florida Panthers. Yashin was the only rookie to appear in the '93 All-Star Game, leading all first-year players in assists (49) and placing second in points (79). Ottawa selected Yashin second overall in the 1992 Entry Draft.
