Wicca, first and foremost, is a religion. Worship to the Lord and Lady are the prime concerns of the Witch, and Magick does play a big role in it, but it is secondary and the Wiccan rede should be adheared to at all times. Taken from Buckland's complete book of witchcraft...by Richard Buckland.

Now...on with the Magick!!

The circle

This is the 'temple' if you like, that is created each time before we do magick. It is a plane between our plane and the plane on which the divine exists. Many books preach that this MUST be followed and the circle must be THIS by THAT. However, I find that the best thing to do is what's best for YOU. I sometimes have a very defined circle, however sometimes, I don't have time, or it isn't the right place...so I use my mind to create the circle. (Once during a healing ritual, their just wasn't any space, as it was performed in the bathroom. I don't think my bathroom is 3 feet wide, let alone with everything in it, I couldn't have created a circle that was 3 feet in radius). I will include my own Opening and Closing of circle ritual in my SPELLs page.

Cone of Power

This is a very important and easy magickal exercise. The purpose is to pull the power within the body out, and 'project' it at our goal. This can be done in a coven(or group of any kind) or alone. I have also included a way of creating a cone of power by oneself in my spells section...but there are many books with descriptions on how it is done.

Candle Magick

There are many types of magic, my favourite being Candle Magick. Candles are used to represent people/places and the energies at work on them, and candles are burnt/moved to redirect these forces. Below is a list of corresponding colours and birthdays for candles that would be used to represent a person/people.

A few tips for the beginning witch...

These are a few basic tips I've found at least once in every book i've ever read.

  1. One does not need to be psychic...just a good imagination
  2. Be creative
  3. Don't let your inhibitions control what you do...
  4. Keep your mouth shut...after a spell, "A watched pot never boils" does apply until the spell is finished.
  5. Magick does not always work as expected...I can't explain it exactly but just remember to be careful what you wish for...and remember it may take time.
  6. To access the 'world between worlds' does not always require elaborate ritual, just faith in one's actions and the Goddess and God.
  7. Finally, never listen to that voice in your head that says "This is stupid, what would your friends think?"...it's a piece of S#$T.
