Mountain Darwin

Big island of Tierra del Fuego is located to the south of Magellan's Strait, where the one continent is dismembered in numerous archipelagos and channels. Numerous summits singular emerge from the level of the sea, being the mythical Sarmiento de Gamboa, the more well-known of the area and that it was ascended for the first time by the Salesiano Alberto Agostini in 1956.

The biggest extension of ice is the Cordillera Darwin that with 100 kilometers in axis northwest–southeast and a width 30 kilometers, between the fiord Almirantazgo and the arm northwest of the Beagle channel, configures the last Icefield now in the Andes Fueguinos. The Monte Shipton (Yagán) of 2.470 meters it is the highest in the area.
