What do you consider to be some of Freire's main ideas or philosophies?

Freire has interesting ideas and approaches as to the delivery of information to students.  It seems that he is not pleased with the “traditional” teacher-student interaction.  By this I mean the typical teacher standing in front of the class, lecturing to the students while maintaining a “you will listen to me” type attitude.  To me, Freire seems to favor a softer approach when it comes to instruction.  An approach that is based more on student involvement and one where students are presented with a topic, problem, or scenario and are asked to work through it together, welcoming ideas from many different angles.  Through his approach, he wanted to see interactions that would promote community, justice, and human flourishing.  With this, there was the potential for making a difference in the world.

Why would the Freire ideas, philosophies or approaches be a useful "lens" in the study of Humanities?

Freire’s ideas, philosophies, and approaches would be a useful “lens” in the study of Humanities because it is stepping outside of the norm of standard student-teacher interaction.  It is taking a new idea, a new way of delivering information and using it to maybe make people feel better about what is being said, more respectful towards their instructor, and overall, better about themselves.  This seems important to the quality or state of being human coupled with human attributes and qualities.
