Satellite Images |
On April 4, 2005, Google.com initiated a Beta version of free satellite imaging for many localities in North America. There still are a few quirks that may be improved in the future including slight inaccuracies with the red arrow icon pointing to an address one or two buildings from the desired result. There are also ambiguous results at times when the search criteria are not specified by a street address.
Toward the upper left corner of the image are controls to move the center point of the image and to zoom in or out. To close any balloon describing the red arrow icon, click on the X in the balloon's upper right area.
There is no need for any paranoia related to this service. The images linked are generally anywhere from 6 to 12 months old. And the resolution is not sufficient to identify license plate data on vehicles or determine who any individual is or what they were doing at that point in time.
This Google service is not the recently announced Beta version of Google Earth. A separate download is needed to view Google Earth images.
