Wixom, Michigan -- Despite a surprisingly energetic effort, the Silver Mullets lost its final game of the 2007 Spring Season to Holiday Market by a score of 13-5, notching yet another 0-10-0 record.
"We've done it before, and we knew we'd do it again," stated captain Pete Koka on losing all ten games of the season. "I'm proud of this hockey club, though. We worked hard up to and including the end."
Starting goaltender Matt Rekuc did not dress, and backup goaltender Mark Potocki stepped in, turning aside thirty-five shots. Potocki was spectacular in net, but had to be pulled around the 9-minute mark of the third period due to the heat.
"We [skaters] were dying out there because it was so hot, and we at least had the chance to rest up on the bench," admitted veteran superstar defenseman Joe Lijek. "I can't imagine how fatigued Mark must have been out there. We didn't want to risk him getting heat stroke or passing out, so he got a well-deserved rest at the end of the game."
On a positive note, the Mullets scored five goals, beating their highest scoring game by two goals. Forwards John May, Rob Waines, Joe Kosiba and Justin scored in addition to a defensive tally by Dustin Amo. John May also notched an assist along with Joe Lijek, Dave Nowakowski, Brent Sanzone and Pete Koka.
"We played a great game," praised player/coach Jerome Dykas at a post-game press conference Sunday night. "If all our players give one hundred and ten percent, we're bound to win a game or two."
The Mullets face off against Team MDX in the first round of the 2007 Playoffs this Sunday, June 24, at 6:50 p.m. |
