The Black & White Masterpiece
This is by far my favorite Audrey dress.  Not only is it stunning, but it was the dress that I first associated with Audrey (the little black dress is a close second). Now that I've finished reminiscing, let's talk about the gown.  The dress was beautiful, and accented Audrey's features perfectly.  It showed up perfectly in the black and white film.  It was one of the dresses that caused fashion designer Edith Head some distress. (She was so jealous of Givenchy's design that she copied the designs after the dress was made and signed her name to them.  Therefore, she pretended that the designs were hers!)  It was also one of the dresses that formed one of Hollywood most memorable ( and one of its last) actress-designer partnerships.
The Replicas
The Original
The dresses on the right are proof that good fashion never goes out of style.  These are all modern day versions of the black & white Sabrina dress. There are basic requirements for duplicating the look, as follow:
-the dress should be black and white, if possible(duh!)
-since black and white dresses are relatively hard to come by, most predominantly white dresses work (the dress in the middle right is an exception)
-for best results, the dress should be strapless (again, the dress in the middle right is an exception)
there should be some sort of contrasting design, if possible
-the actual shape of the dress is the most important factor (click on any of the replica dresses to see this point illustrated)
-the characteristics of the dress are both slim and full. The dress is slim and almost tubular shaped, but the attached train is full, and makes the dress seem to be more like a ballgown.
-the dress should be between ankle- and floor length
-splits are not recommended, but side splits are permissible (the dress on the far right could be stitched up, for maximum Audrey effect.
