WHAT AN EVENING !!!!!!! Tonight I attended The Skater's Of The Millenium Show held at the Sudbury Arena. We were all entertained with a wonderful line up of international AND Canadian skaters around the globe.
This show was produced by non other than Michele Brunet. Many of you Canadians out there would remember him as fellow ice dancer partner to Jennifer Boyce and later on partner with Chantel Lavebe. He has definifly not left the skating family. He started his own production company (MBM Productions) and has really enjoyed this part of the skating scene.
The Opening Number: We all remember the oh so famous show SURVIVOR? Well I would have definitly called this SURVIVOR ON ICE ........ the theme of the opening number was really rather interesting indeed. Once the lights dimed the tortes were lite, and we were all treated by a unique opening number. With the entire cast coming out dressed in their
I must say I LOVE MY NEW JOB!! After the show was over, I just happened to bump into a co- worker I work with who just happened to have a few extra tickets to the post-show reception (the restaurant I work at were one of the sponsours of tonights show, reason for the tickets being handed out), so my Mom and I tagged along with her and her daughter, and we attended the post- show reception together.
Getting the chance to meet the skaters was wonderful. The reception was filled with lots of food and drinks for us to enjoy and also to mingle with the skaters.
My first meeting was with Jamie Sale and David Pelletier. I think this is the first time I really had the chance to talk with Jamie one on one. And what a doll she is. We talked about all the shows that came through Sudbury, many of which she had participated in (Skate The Nation in 1994 - "the best TOUR ever".... she said) along with 1990 Canadian National Championships (her very 1st Nationals with her old partner Jason Turner) I do remember that competition rolling into Sudbury ... had mentioned Elvis, that was the 1st time Jamie ever knew of Elvis Stojko. We also talked about touring this summer and David and Jamie will be touring with The Tom Collins Champions On Ice Tour in the USA after the season is over, and possible in the near future they will eventually team up with the Canadian Stars On Ice Tour. I had mentioned to her that there was talk about them being "special guest skaters" for this years tour, and she had told me that they were asked to tour with them this year, but it was too late since they had already had arranged to tour with Tom Collins Tour. But she is VERY much looking forward to touring with SOI in the near future, cause after all its in Canada and she loves performing for a Canadian crowd ! We also chatted a bit about the Sears Open. I congratulated her with their win, and she was kinda shocked I already knew the results since it was being aired on CTV that night ... I said that I found out of coure ONLINE - lol. She had a chuckle at that. She asked if I had seen the short on TV this afternoon and of course I did, before I went to the show, she said that was probably the best they have skated their short this year. Our conversation ended with a quick picture with both Jamie and David.
My next encounter was with non other than the producer of the show, Michele Brunet. I just really wanted to congratulate him for the great job he did with the show, and thanked him so much for bringing the show to Sudbury. I along with my Mom got into some really interesting discussions about the show, and about the future of his production company. Another show is in the works - which will be held in Ottawa at the Corel Center. Featured skater apparently will be Elvis Stojko. He is really enjoying producing shows and hopefully will expand and get bigger and better through the years to come. He even said that next year they will probably AGAIN stop in Sudbury for yet another show :) Also during our conversation we talked about touring with Skate The Nation Tour when it came through Sudbury. All those great bowling games played at the bowling alley after the show. And the crowds were fantastic :)
