We had elections on Saturday, November 23, 2002, and this was the result:

President - Lisa Narcisse (new)

Vice President - Caroll Neita (was President)

Treasurer - Nancy Cera (maintained her position)

Recording Secretary - Brenda Leighton

We will have a holiday party on December 28, 2002 at the home of Lisa Narcisse.  Details to follow.

Also we received a CD rom from ICHS in Jamaica which has pictures of the school and information about the school.  They sell for $35.00.  The pictures are clear and crisp and it really looks nice.  Anyone wishing to buy one should contact Lisa Narcisse at (954) 236-3429.  All funds collected go to ICHS in Jamaica.

The Principal Speaks

The Observer carried a news report on Sunday, November 10, 2002, about some parents’ dissatisfaction with the CAPE Chemistry teacher.  These parents took their concern to the Ministry of Education, as they wanted ICHS to select a different teacher to teach Unit II.  Sister Mary Catherine has provided additional information on this issue:

Re the CAPE Chemistry story in the Observer, we should congratulate the teacher, Mrs. Jacquelyn Marshall.  Let me clarify.   She got 93% passes in the CAPE Chemistry (only two out of twenty three failed) and 100% passes in Integrated Science at CXC level.   Two students out of all those sitting CAPE Chemistry in Jamaica got a I (one).  One of the two was from Mrs. Marshall's class - probably 1st on the island.  Most schools had no one passing with I, II or III.  Apart from Hampton, Mrs. Marshall had the best results overall.   Unfortunately, one parent was upset that her daughter ended up with a V - a low pass - and decided to blame Mrs. Marshall's teaching.  The fact that she  (Marshall) forces the students to do research and to think and analyse, makes her a type of  "dragon".    In the end, of course, they're grateful.  I'm certainly happy to have her on staff.

There will be an article in the Sunday Observer (December 1, 2002) justifying my insistence on having this excellent teacher continue with the same group doing Unit II.  There's no one else here with her qualification or experience and we cannot have parents, with limited information, dictate who is to teach whom.

It is indeed unfortunate that the parent chose to go to the press and to the Ministry.
