Why Have I Choosen To Be A Part Of The Linux Movement

The purpose of this pharagraph is to explain what fascinated me such about Linux, and I'll try
to get you near my vision of the whole thing, and I'll be very happy if I made just one of you
ordinary poeple get to think about what I'm trying to say.

Linux in general is an Operating System, but it exceedes the limits of that not so primitive
word. For many, Linux is a way of life, a reason to live, and represetns their true character, and
therefore makes them a person of prinicipals. Yes I am one of them, I confess, if you think it is a
crime than I made a crime, I am a Linux user. They say we are not the American way, and should be
stopped, well, is the American way to make the world a better place, to fight for freedom? Yes, it feels
good to know we are on the right side!

Linux is an operating system that was initially created as a hobby by a young student, Linus
Torvalds, at the University of Helsinki in Finland. Linus had an interest in Minix, a small UNIX system,
and decided to develop a system that exceeded the Minix standards. He began his work in 1991 when he
released version 0.02 and worked steadily until 1994 when version 1.0 of the Linux Kernel was released.
The full-featured version released on January 2001 is 2.4 and development continues with more and more
pople/developers working on the kernel. Simply Kernel is the main part, and the basic of an operating
system. Then, Linux was something totaly new and opened doors for a better future, and soon a big
response came to Torvalds's idea and work.

Linux is developed under the GNU General Public License and its source code is freely available
to everyone. In this way, as open source linux helps software developers to understand how an operating
system works, and therefore they can learn much more and improve it. This however, doesn't mean that
Linux and its assorted distributions are free - companies and developers may charge money for it as
long as the source code remains available. Linux may be used for a wide variety of purposes including
networking, software development, and as an end-user platform.

Linux is often considered an excellent, low-cost alternative to other more expensive operating
systems. But nowdays Linux has become such a big project having thousand and thousand pople working on
its developmnet and improvement. The thing is that anyone can help! You really don't have to be a
programmer, to help the Linux society. Basicly there are no big companies that represtent linux and make
marketings for its produtcts. That role is done by the ordinary, normal computer users.

Therefore LUG was born. LUG or Linux User Group is a group that do all this things and more, but
still the main purpose hanging out together, having fun, working on Linux and offcourse on the end getting
drunk. If you say "I like the drinking part", you are welcome too, but you will have to pay for the drinks,
and become a member.
LUG's are common to every country, and some are so effencive and powerfull that they made their
goverment announce Linux as an official operating system in their country, the case is with: Argentina,
South Korea, Germany is on its way, and others but these were some major ones.
When is the order for Bosnia?

Bosnia and Herzegovina has its own lug, called lugbih (Linux Udruzenje Gradana Bosne i Hercegovine)
and their web site is http://www.lugbih.org or http://www.linux.org.ba, it is a great organization and
thanks to them we all have Linux on bosnian, great support and allot of documentation on bosnian.
So, for a good and quick start with Linux I recommend lugbih's official web site http://www.linux.org.ba.
Zenica has also its own LUG called, LugZe (Linux User Group of Zenica),
their web site is http://www.lugze.tk and it is on the very beggining, so every kind of support is welcome.

Doing, and having big sucess Linux movement has become a revolution. Before Linux there were no
free/open source software but just expensive unstable, nonsecure but easy to use software like Microsoft
Windows. Becouse of this all, their monopolistic methods and good marketing Ms Windows made a fortune
and its owner Bill Gates became the richest man on the world, so powerfull that even the United States
are afear of him,of one single man. But now a threat for Microsoft and Bill exists and that's Linux.
They are now aware that Linux isn't what they thought it was, a silly idea that couldn't harm them.
But know they are making seminars for developing methods to stop Linux/open source movemnet.
So if you ask why is linux becomming so popular, think what would you choose: a free, secure, stabile,
OS with countless advance and basic options for any kind of user, or a expensive, insecure, unstable,
Os with basic function for total begginers and for any other option you should pay a big sum of money.
Well You choose! I choose life, I choose freedom, I choose Linux!

Linux has an official mascot, the Linux Penguin, which was selected by Linus Torvalds to
represent the image he associates with the operating system he created. Therefore Penguins are welcome
to Bosnia, since we are so tired of these ordinary no good peageons. So if you wonder "why a penguin?"
well, shortly I will try to explain. Originally Linux mascot should be a fire-breathing dragon,
representing the flame wars that Linux zealots ignite on Usenet. As this was too similar to Mozilla,
he eventually decided on a penguin. As flightless birds, penguins (unlike airplanes and Windows 98)
never have the opportunity to crash. And beside, penguins are furry nad cute!

I would like to point that this is a short version of a short part of what I have planned to
write, but since I would have to sacrifice time, wich is so precious in this moment, I have made a
quick and lame intro in Linux movement. Thanx, I hope you have enjoyed reading.
