Not surprisingly, the aim of this course is to get you to write English better both grammatically and from the point of view of style.

My big ambition is that you will learn how to improve your own internal grammar and sense of style by looking at good and bad examples of English usage.

There is no textbook: I will post material on this website for you to download and bring to class. There will be no examinations either - every two weeks you will need to submit an essay, and your grade will be decided according to the goodness of those essays.

If you look at the appropriate place on the timetable, you will find the first download and theme of the first essay already available. The first download, by the way, is an example of bad English style - we shall discuss why in the first class.
