USS Midway CV-41
V2 Division (Cats)1982
Take a bunch of bored sailors, a lazy day at sea, a standard Navy issue broom-stick and sheet. Mix with one idiot, some rope and sailors get strange ideas. We really did try this, but no one ever believed us.
Sometime in 1982, it was a no-fly day on the aircraft carrier Midway. We had about 40 knots of wind over the deck and we got the idea that we could make a human kite. After I got up enough nerve, I put on my flight-deck gear (always think safety in the Navy!!). I then pushed a broom stick thru my shirt, tied a sheet to my ankles and wrists and had someone tie a rope to my float coat. We didn't get very far, but it was another first for Naval Aviation. GO NAVY!
