Text Box: Everyone brings a dish to pass and gives a donation, and Don and Karen supply the meat, corn, drinks and table service. With the large turnout they have, the dishes variety, is enough to please anyone.
Of course, the best part is visiting with the many folks whom we have met through our many EAA events and meeting new people. I have yet to meet an EAA member I didn’t Text Box: like!
Scott Duck always plans a special treat, and this year it was a one man airshow, put on by Dave Dacy Airshows of Harvard IL. Scott had it all set up with the FAA and only had to make a call to the Elkhart Tower, to get things underway.
Dave used a Super Stearman to perform the loops, rolls and immelmans to an appreciative crowd. It was much more intimate than the large shows where you are so far away from the performer.
It was a pretty windy day but about 15 planes flew in to the strip, including, 2 RV-4’s, Sam Pavel’s Sonex, 2 Mini-Max, a CH-701, a Cub and a Tri-Pacer.
The only other 865er in attendance was Joe Landy. Joe tries to make it every year. The Ducks are wonderful people and we are lucky to have them in our EAA fraternity. Watch Pilots Progress next summer for the date of next years Duck’s Picnic.

Duck’s Picnic

By Ralph Ballard

Liz and I went to Don and Karen Duck’s picnic for the first time this summer. We have known about it for years and always were sorry we couldn’t make it when we heard the stories about folks having so much fun.

Don Duck (above) and wife Karen, always takes the time to make everyone feel at home.

R. Joe and Liz enjoy the show.
