eNewsletter ~~ February 2004

Web-site is growing:

Our web-site has been growing. We now have an archive of eNewsletters. Well, ok, there's ONE eNewsletter archived...last month's newsletter.

We've added the January Meeting Minutes to our site.

We even have a free pattern on our site now.

With all these new items it's hard to believe, but I still need your help. Please help by contributing one or more of the following:

Bazaar Up-date:

Ideas for our left over bazaar items was discussed at the January meeting. We talked about all kinds of ideas including: signing up for more bazaars, donating these items to charities, selling the items either in consignment shops or on eBay.

It was decided (with a vote) that we would try a couple more bazaars. We are planning to do an April bazaar at the senior citizen center in Wasilla. This would be the 1st week in April. There is also a bazaar at the senior citizen center in Anchorage on March 27th. We are also possibly looking into one more at a later date.

If you can help man...er...I mean woman any of the bazaar booths, please, let one of our Ididachain officers know. If you can't help in a booth, can you help make quick & easy items for sale? No Christmas items at this time a year, although hats and scarves seem to sell pretty well, even in the spring. Easter items or other spring-like items might be a hit! Any items that you'd like to donate for sale will be appreciated. Again, let one of our officers know that you have items to donate!!

2004 Service Project:

We have a service project for 2004!!!! We will be making Lap-ghans or afghans for the pioneer home and the assisted living group at the senior center in the valley.

Finished items should be brought to the group by September because we wish to deliver in October and November.

Finished Lap-ghans should measure 36 in. X 40 in. These can be made with 40 inch long strips that can be put together. Any width strips will work. If you'd prefer to make squares, 6 inch squares can easily be put together; either as you go or later.

Enjoy playing with these ideas and have a good time. Our last year's project was similiar and you can check out some of the beautiful lap-ghans that we had.

Caps for Kids:

Our Chapter has decided to compete in the Caps for Kids Chapter Challenge which is part of the Chain Link conference that is held in July. More information will be forthcoming, but for now....get out your hooks, get out your yarn...any size/color/texture of yarn that is....and start crocheting nice, warm caps/hats for kids. Remember, kids come in all sizes from preemies to adult. Any pattern can be used. Any size hook, any style/color of yarn. Sound easy enough so far?? The Challenge part comes in during the Crochet Guild of America's conference when our Chapter will take our caps for donation. Crochet Guild of America will then make sure that all the caps/hats get to the organization that distributes them to the kids. The deadline for caps is kinda short, so start now!! Completed Caps are due at our June meeting, so Delma and others attending the conference can take the caps to the conference in July. We should have more information in March when the CGOA Chain Link conference books come out. Until then, please contact Delma if you have questions.

The Craft Yarn Council has a crocheted preemie hat pattern here:
