Growltiger and Griddlebone are two figures from Jellicle literature. Or are they? No one appears to know. It is known that apparently Gus acted out the part of Growltiger at one point in his acting career, and when he remebers those days Jellylorum dresses as Griddlebone.Growltiger was a fierce pirate cat who lost one ear to a siamese cat. He was known as the Terror of the Thames, and had a crew of rats. Griddlebone was a white persian, who was the only one who could make Growltiger wax poetic. There is also some question as to Griddlebone's loyalties. In the song Macavity, Griddlebone is the cat mentioned by Demeter as being an agent of Macavity.
Eventually, Growltiger was killed by being forced to walk the plank by the siamese cats who raid his ship, but the fate of Lady Griddlebone is less certain...
