riodean writes:Little Boy Lost is probably the best biography of James Dean available. It is extremely well written and is very detailed with lots of personal tidbits. I would recommend it as a great book for new and old fans.

Mist writes:Joe Hyams knew Jimmy while he was a rising star in the Warner Bros. machine until the day he died. What makes Little Boy Lost a bit of a treasure is Mr. Hyams recollections of the Hollywood Dean. Many biographers who knew their subjects have a tendency to embellish their dead star with wild tales and promised scandalous glimpses into the life of the hero in an attempt to make a buck or two. While Dean has not been spared this "injustice" by other associates of his, it's safe to say that Hyams, who penned this bio with his son Jay, approaches his subject with the tenderness one usually would associate with a departed friend. Little Boy Lost is at his best when Jimmy moves from New York to Hollywood. And why not? Hyams personal recollections and remeniciences of Dean are during this very same period of Dean's life. A good read for the newly inspired.
