The Karnataka Regional Engineering College (KREC) is one of the premier engineering institutions of the country. KREC was set up way back in the 60s with three branches. It has come a long way since and has grown to a full-fledged engineering college with 9 engineering branches. The college will soon acquire the deemed university status. Keeping pace with current trends in engineering, a new branch- that of Information Technology (IT) has commenced this year which has been enthusiastically chosen by the several prospective engineers.

The college boasts of an excellent faculty and well-equipped labs. We have a Central Computer Center (CCC) with 150 terminals accessible anytime by students of all branches. The Central Library consists of over 100,000 books and subscribes to over 50 technical journals including most IEEE publications. The Computer Science (CS) and Electronics and Communications (EC) Engineering Departments have been able to maintain modern libraries and well-maintained laboratories thanks to various collaborative efforts including the UK-REC project, the Swiss project and the IMPACT program. The EC Department is equipped with a LAN lab with state-of-the-art computers with internet access through a separate leased line and is connected to the CCC through a high-speed optic fiber link. The Electrical Engineering (EE) Department has an excellent faculty who are actively involved in the activities of the IEEE KREC Chapter.

The college is set amidst the scenic Western Ghats to the east and the Arabian Sea to the west. Recreational facilities include stadiums for football, hockey, basketball, tennis, and cricket. An exclusive indoor stadium caters to the needs of table tennis and badminton enthusiasts. Every weekend, KRECians are treated to a movie at our very own open air theatre at the Student Activity Center (SAC). Cultural events are regularly hosted at the Silver Jubilee Auditorium (SJA).
