Additional works for piano one hand (courtesy of Dr. Theodore Edel including works for left or right hand, concerti for three hands and orchestra, for two right hands and chamber music for piano right hand and six kettle drums.) The repertoire is separated into advanced, intermediate, and beginning levels.
Piano music for the left hand was written due to temporary or permanent handicaps of pianists with the exception of Leopold Godowsky, who arranged the famous etudes of Chopin as he was exploring the different possibilities on playing the piano. Playing only with the left hand is more difficult than one can realize. Left hand likes to play loud which can produce harsh sounds sometimes. It is more difficult to play with one hand than with two, because with one hand there is never silence, everything is more exposed and the acoustical range is very different from that with two hands.
Advanced pieces for the left hand alone suggested by Antonio Iturrioz (concert pianist and educator) are:
Chaconne in D Minor
- by J.S. Bach arranged for the left hand alone by Johannes Brahms
- The Concerto for the Left Hand Piano and Orchestra
- by Maurice Ravel and Sergei Prokofiev
- Nocturne for the Left Hand Alone
by Alexander Scriabin
- Left Hand Etudes
by Leopold Godowsky
