Commercial Development
If you develop a program that runs under Linux, even if you use the
free, high-performance GNU compilers (also under the GPL), you don't have to make it open-source,
too. Just because you use the services of the kernel doesn't
mean you have to be under the same license as the kernel.
There are a wide variety of programs and applications available for
Linux, under a wide variety of licenses. These range from public
domain to postcard-ware to shareware to commercial, with all sorts of
combinations, too.
