Agenda for the 4-5 day extravaganza aDates:
19th January to 23rd January 2000 Software
Contests
With the world slowly and steadily taking the software stride to
the next millennium, who does not want to get into this field?
The festival provides a grand dais to exhibit your caliber in the
third language of mankind by participating in predefined and on the spot
contests. (*) Predefined S/w Contests:
In these contests, you will be provided with a set of intimidating
problems created after harsh brainstorming or drawn from prestigious
international contests in a modified form. You will be required to solve
any one of these problems to be eligible for grand prizes. On
the Spot Contests: You will
be provided with a set of 3-5 problems to be solved within a set time
period. The pattern of the questions and their evaluation will closely
resemble that of the eminent ACM championships, albeit at an easier
level. The system will be running Windows, and you will have the choice
of programming in any language of your choice viz. Pascal, C, Turbo C++,
MS Visual C++, Visual Basic, JavaScript, UNIX C. Since those using
Visual tools will surely flaunt a nicer UI than the ones using Pascal,
stress will be placed on the functionality of the program in general and
the algorithm in particular. Rewards are materialistic as well as
cognitive. (*)
Technical Paper Sessions
We invite papers in various fields of engineering and technology
from students currently pursuing a graduate course in any science stream.
The papers submitted should be in the following areas of study:
Each submitted paper
should include the following ingredients:
RULES AND REGULATIONS:
The sessions include wholesome materialistic prizes. Informals
This will consist of non-competitive events like Brainteasers, Crosswords, Puzzles etc. The main emphasis here will be to combine fun with learning. The registration for these activities will be on the spot, with virtually no limit for the number of participants. (*)
Technical Model Presentation
In this event, the participants are required to present innovative
ideas themselves with the help of functional or static models. All models
will be displayed throughout the duration of the festival. You will have
to state the requirements (viz. Space reqd., PCs required, CRO etc.) of
your model/project at the time of registering for the event. If selected
for the festival, you will have to come prepared with your model and
papers to exhibit it at the venue. The judges for this event will be from
IEEE. Innovative software designs are
also welcome with their source code. (*)
Hardware Design Contest
In this event, we will assign 4 to 5 problems for designing the hardware. Certain number of problems will be provided with the final posters to be circulated in the 1st week of November 1999. You will have to work out the solutions) to as many problems as you can design. When coming for participation, you will have to bring the design with you along with necessary theoretical background and diagrams if any. Poster
Contests
Discovered a new solution to the Y2K problem? Got a new settlement for the bottlenecks on the Web? The Poster Contest gives an excellent opportunity for you to show off your work and to discuss your research in an informal setting. Each participant will be provided with a set amount of vertical space to exhibit his/her work in the form of posters. The aim is to display your work and technical explanations in a mute paper form. The most effective and well-presented entries go in line for prizes and recognition, as these posters will be judged by the best of researchers, including representatives from IEEE. The basic approach should be to adopt illustrations that attract visitors and leave no need for any verbal communication with the presenter for understanding the work. As always, a picture speaks a thousand words. Quizzes
Interactive and written quizzes will be conducted throughout the festival. Topics range from Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics to Computer Science. Participants clearing the prelims will compete head on for winning materialistic awards. Literary Contests
Have a brief rehearsal for competitive exams like the IAS, CAT etc, through GD’s, debates, one-minute speeches etc. Details of these events will be available at the venue itself at the time of participation.
Cartooning Contests
Let your imagination run wild. Create the most realistic and patterned cartoon comprised of elements like a mouse, keyboard, IC etc. You will be provided with examples at the time of registration for the event. This event will be on the spot and only manual drawing will be allowed. Pencil sketches are required, no color necessary. Selected entries will be put on exhibit and the best three will receive prizes. Corporate Maneuvers
Ever invested in shares or seen a stock broker in action? Well this is the opportunity for you to take the role of a stockbroker with all the ups and downs of real trading. Who knows, the next big bull is inside you! The emphasis here will be to provide fun and a strategic affair for non-management based participants.
Lecture Sessions
A series of informative and enlightening lectures will be conducted
everyday throughout the festival. Seasoned and experienced speakers will
deliver all lectures. They will be in tune with the theme of the festival.
Registration for attending these lectures will take place at the venue
itself.
