How to: Build a Raised Bed Garden

Here is how we made the frame for the garden.

There was an existing deck that 'we' started with. (I held the camera)
Brett added on the sides for framing 2x4 uprights and used 1 1/2 x 12 pressure treated lumber for the sides.

This same idea can be used to make a compost bin.
Since we used the pressure treated lumber, we added a liner inside the framing so we do not poison ourselves.

A rail was added to finish off the appearance.

A layer of rock was placed on the bottom for drainage. Atop that we used some top soil. In layers we added moo-poo, vermiculite, pearlite, peat moss. Alternating the layers. A basic fertilizer was used about 3 inches from the top. A soaker hose is buried in the soil about 4 inches down. Being that this is Florida and it is a raised garden we were worried the soil would dry too quick. The buried soaker hose really seemed to work well.
