How to Prepare Food

I feed MK Salad and lots of greens.  Since you can go to the bottom of the page (in the table) to find info. about MK Salad, I'm only going to discuss what I do in addition to the salad.

Along with the MK Salad, I prepare a lot of mixed greens.  I go to a supermarket and buy many different kinds of greens.  I buy mustard one week, collards the next week, and escarole the third week.  I repeat this basic cycle.  I have heard that mustard and collard shouldn't be fed to adult iguanas in large quantities because of the high calcium in those foods.  For young iguanas, collards and mustard are awesome.  I carefully wash and wash the vegetables.   Then I chop off the leafy stuff and set aside the stem stuff.  I chop up the leafy parts into one inch squares.  The stem stuff can be fed to the iguana.   Just make sure you carefully chop it up really really finally so that the iguana doesn't choke on the tough fiber stems.  I place some of these greens in a plastic ziploc bag in the refrigerator.  I only put enough for five days since it will start to go bad after that.  However, if your greens don't go bad then you can probably still use them.  But, if at anytime the greens go bad, they should be thrown out.   I feed these greens along with the salad mixed up.  I feed my iguana in the morning.  I put out enough for the entire day.
