A little about my favorite movies of 1976: The Front: Does this count as a Woody Allen film? It was very good, anyhow. Logan's Run: Something about this b-movie stuck in our collective unconscience, because people still refer to it all the time. Marathon Man: Only watch if you're not sick of Dustin Hoffman. Murder By Death: 1976 was a slim movie year, otherwise this would never have made my list. Network: Not as biting as some people thought, but pretty biting satire nonetheless. The Omen: Another movie you have to see to pick out the many cultural references to. "It's all for you, Damien!" Rocky: You may have heard of this one. Though I may personally dislike Stallone and all that came afterwards (and I do), Rocky was good. Taxi Driver: Not a personal favorite, but pretty good, and it did inspire someone to shoot Ronald Reagan. Silver Streak: Boy, has this film aged badly. Was Richard Pryor ever actually funny? I seem to have missed that part of his career, and always imagine that he was funny once, but it must have been scandalously so, because all evidence of that brief period has vanished. The Tenant: Roman Polanski psychological thriller. Not his best movie, but his best psychological thriller.
