A little about my favorite movies of 1980:

Breaker Morant: There was a time when Australian cinema
was on a ROLL. This could have been a play... oh wait,
it WAS a play. Anyway, it was probably a very good play,
and the acting here is very good also.

Airplane!: I wonder if this film seems dated now. At
the time it was a phenomenon.

The Elephant Man: My favorite David Lynch film of the '80s.

The Fog: An atmospheric, if not much else, John Carpenter
spooky film.

Forbidden Zone: The best movie ever made for fifty dollars
(and that's after adjusting for inflation). Directed by
Richard Elfman, music by Danny Elfman back when he was nobody.

The Gods Must Be Crazy: Slapstick in the Kalahari! Always good
for a laugh.

The Great Rock 'n' Roll Swindle: A milestone in the rock documentary.

The Howling: My favorite werewolf movie of all time.

Raging Bull: Best capturing on camera of boxing I've ever seen.
Didn't love this movie as much as certain film societies do.

UFOria: I feel like I'm the only person in the world who ever saw
this. It was low budget, and I liked it, so there. Leonard Maltin
calls it an "amiable if sometimes uneasy mix of MELVIN AND HOWARD
and CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND." That about sums it up,
but what was wrong with those movies? It was made in 1980, but
not released until 1986.
