A Very Small MeteoriteThe monster didn’t look scary at all. In fact it looked like a really pretty girl in her early twenties. It may even had been a really pretty girl in her early twenties, that wasn’t really important. She was a monster, and she well knew that. She looked in the mirror another time, didn’t like what she saw, but decided not to do anything about it. She returned to the table and found that it had been cleaned while she was away. Nobody working at the restaurant was in sight, and so she went out in the street. She looked to the left and saw an elderly gentleman with a small dog. She looked to the right and saw no one, and so she smiled, almost unnoticeably, and went to the right.Near the same time, a really small meteorite struck the atmosphere. It was very small and completely burned within less than a second. No one on the ground noticed it. Someone in the space, however, did. They had quite a few instruments tracking the small meteorite, measuring and recording everything there was to measure and record. When they were done, they started the engines and left extremely fast. Not that they had any particular reason to hurry, they simply did pretty much everything extremely fast. The flash of their departure was noticed by very few people on the ground, and none of those people thought much of it. In the evening the monster girl put on some nice clothes and went to a bar on the other side of the city. A reasonably good looking guy noticed her, came up to her and threw one of the less original pickup lines, to which she chose to respond, as she didn’t really care. After a couple drinks and billiard games they went to his apartment and had some casual sex, and when he fell asleep she dressed quietly and left. While the girl was busy doing all that, one of the researchers aboard the spaceship got bored and was looking at the photographs of their latest survey. He saw the girl on one of those photographs, and fell in love with her the same instant. Since such matters take the highest priority in the more advanced societies, the spaceship turned around and dropped him off on the planet in its usual extremely fast manner. He located the girl just as she was leaving the apartment where she previously had had some casual sex with the reasonably good looking guy from the bar. He came up to her and said ‘Hi’ with a wide sincere smile. The girl looked at him and smiled back. She fell in love with him as instantaneously as he had fallen in love with her. They walked all night around the city holding hands and talking about everything. In the morning he signaled his spaceship which came extremely fast, picked him up and left equally fast. He was disappointed and very sad. The girl was also disappointed and very sad, but for a different reason. She still really loved him, and she thought that she couldn’t love anybody or even have casual sex with anybody ever again. Of course she did, but only after a few really long months. |
