06.05.00
Nepal  chronology:
29.03.                Ljubljana-Wienna-Kathmandu

30.03 -  02.04.  Kathmandu; arranging peak permit, porters, air tickets for Lukhla, shopping,
                          BEEEER (Kingfisher)

03.04.               Flight Kath.-Lukhla; walking to Namche Bazar (8h).

04.04.                Rest day for acclimatization, walking up 300m to the airport.

05.04.                Over  Mong La to Portse Tenga; (perhaps you better pass this lodge!)

06.04.                Terribble headache, probbably because of strong wind and dehidration;
                           Walking up 300m to Portse and back down.

07.04.                Forward to Dole; it is getting colder, strong wind begins around 10.00 A.M.
                           every day.

08.04.                 Machermo; We respect advise of slow ascending  to avoid  AMS, though it's                                boring to walk for 2-3 hours and waste time for the rest of the day.

09.04.                 Gokyo (4900m); beautifull place; weather not as good anymore, first snow                                  late  in the evening.

10.04.                 Dragnag; crossing the glacier morena labirinth to get under Cho La; very                                  nice lodge, the best "dhal bat" I've eaten on the entire trek.

11.04.                  Over Cho La(5400m) to Dzongla; cloudy, windy, some snowing; if you don't                              have any mountaineering experience at all, perhaps you better avoid this                                    pass (we've seen some 'hot shots' helplessly stearing around!); Dzongla is                                    probbably the most expensive lodge in this region.

12.04.                 Down to Dingboche(above Periche); Snow Lion lodge - luxury, very nice and                            helpfull staff, prices the same as anywhere else.

13.04.                 Rest day, porter brings our gear and peak permit from Lukhla.

14.04.                 Walking up to Chhukung and further to Island peak (Imja tse) base camp;
                           it's snowing, when I get there at 01.00. P.M.; the nearest water source is                                    frozen glacier lake, almost an hour hike from ABC. We carried all our gear                                and food from Dingboche ourselves; no porters.

15.04.                 At 03.30. A.M. we start walking to Island peak; there's no snow up to glacier                             at around 5900m; there are also French, German and American commercial                              expeditions; they used guides, climbing sherpas and fixed ropes and still                                    haven't all reached the summit; It starts snowing at dawn, there's strong wind,                          it's getting pretty uncomfortable;I reached the top alone at 10.15., after                                       leaving  my friend 150m lower on the glacier because of exhaustion; bad                                       visibility and  strong wind; around 03.00. P.M we're back to ABC.
                          It is snowing again, everybody left to Chhukung, except me and my friend;                                ABC is empty; we get another inch of fresh powder snow during the night;

16.04.               Down to Dingboche

17.04.                Up to Lobuje and Gorak Shep; weather pattern remains the saim: beautifull                              morning, wind at 10.00., snow storms after noon.

18.04.                To Kala Pattar, then back toward Dingboche; in Thukla we met Slovenian                                Lhotse expedition; in few hours the lodge was out of beer.

19.04.                 To Tengpoche and Namche.

20.04.                To Lukhla; some rain in the afternoon; endless crowds of trekkers heading up                            to Namche.

21.04.                 Flight to Kathmandu; we waited more then three hours because of bad                                         weather.

22.04.-26.04.      Shopping, waiting for flight confirmation.

27.04.                 To Wienna; back to reality!
