Timeshares with Al Gore

In the spring of 96, Vice President Al Gore was in New Orleans speaking at an education convention. Later that night he was the honored guest at a local hotel reception.

Unbeknownst to him, and the Secret Service, one of our locals, Time Share Jerry, was setting up a reception of his own right across the street for some new clients.

Neither hosts spared any expenses. The executive hosts set out a small jazz band, a five star seafood buffet, and complimentary champagne. Time Share Jerry and his crew set out some disco laser lights, a table of New Orleans style ribs, and a cash bar.

An hour before the time-share clients arrived, Jerry’s help waited around and started getting restless. Meanwhile, Al Gore was being schmoozed not 100 feet away.

Time Share Jerry sat down and started looking at his sales lead cards for tomorrow’s appointments. Secret Service spotter/snipers scanned the area from the rooftops across the way.

With nothing to do, one of the time-share helpers started playing with the disco lasers. The Secret Service always has plenty to do protecting the Vice President of the United States.

Sure enough, the helper thought it amusing to play the laser into the busy hotel window across the street. Moments later the Secret Service played their lasers right back!

Time Share Jerry sees all this and snatches the idiot away from the window, knocking over his new laser toy. Jerry runs out of breathe from his first tirade of obscenities on the clueless helper.

Just as he draws another breathe, the Secret Service special reaction team kicks in the door with submachine guns drawn.

After a thorough and violent frisking, Jerry tries to explain what they are doing. It was pretty hard considering he still had his face smashed into the carpet. Finally satisfied the Secret Service leaves with the entire set of nifty disco laser lights now confiscated.

The next day, Al Gore left town with some new partners in education, and Time Share Jerry had a new vacancy to fill.
