A Mother’s Love by Grandpa Chuck

  This is a true story that I would like to share.. A friend of mine, Bob, was at work when his wife Mary called crying into the phone, “Something has happened to Mike!”.  Bob of course thinking the worse had happened to their 15-year old son asked her to please tell him what had happened?   “I don’t know!”, she yelled, “But something happened!”.

  If you’re like me at this point in the story it was quickly making no sense.  My friend Bob thought so too but try as he might Mary insisted that something happened to Mike.  As this was not normal for Mary to act this way Bob said he would come home and together they would see if they could find their son.

  As he left work and started home Bob remembered that his son was going to help a local business owner hand out flyers promoting their Mail Box Etc business.  It was on the way home so he stopped to check if Mike was there.  “No”, said the business owner, “Mike had taken his moped and headed to a local strip mall to hand out flyers.” 

  Bob debated about going home and getting Mary or just heading over to the strip mall  to look for Mike.   Bob decided to check the strip mall first.  A few blocks away he saw Mike pushing his moped down the sidewalk.  As he got closer to Mike it was very clear that he had been in some sort of accident.  The front wheel of the moped was bent, he was limping, and tears were running down his face.  It turned out that at the strip mall, a car backing out of parking place had hit him and his moped.  The driver of the car that hit Mike then just drove away.

  Bob quickly tied Mary’s call to him at work and the accident together.  He asked Mike how long ago this had happened.  “About half an hour ago”, said Mike.  This was very close to the time that Mary had called him at work.  How did Mary know?

  Was this intuition on the part of Mary?  Was this a special sort of bond between a Mother and her son?  Was it neither but just a coincidence that Mary knew something had happened to Mike?      

    I believe in my heart that it was a Mother’s Love that insisted that Bob and her look for Mike that day!
