Weather Alerts by Grandpa Chuck

The current conditions in Florida with Hurricane Frances reminded me of the many ways you can use to keep up to date with weather conditions in your area.  I would like to share a few of them with you.

One of the best desktop free weather alerts for PC owners is an application called Weather Bug which puts a weather station right on your home computer.

Most local TV Stations have a place where you can sigh up to have weather alerts sent to you directly from their weather department or meterologist.   This is another excellent way to get needed information on weather conditions.

Two other sites that offer weather alerts that are sent directly to your email are Weather Channel and Wunderground.  Both are great for keeping up with weather changes not only in your own area but also areas where friends and family might live.

Emergency Email Network also offers a way to sign-up for alerts. They do not cover all areas but their list of supported cities is growing daily. This web site makes it about as easy as it can get to receive weather and disaster alerts via email.

The US Government's Federal Emergency Management Agency does not send out email but is still a great site to keep on your list of weather related sites to keep you upadated on areas around the country that are having weather or disaster related problems.

In this day and age of the Internet you should never have to be uninformed when it comes to severe weather in your area.  Sign up for one of these free services today!
