Tuesday Picnics! by Grandpa Chuck
Every Tuesday during the summer we have a picnic at a local park close to the house. It has a tot lot, picnic tables, grills and a ¼-mile path through a wooded area to walk.
As the 3-grandkids and I walked along the path through the forest (wooded area) I thought back about what I remembered as favorite childhood events in my life and realized that outing like the weekly picnics are the ones the children will most likely remember. Why? Because they were done on a regular schedule.
In my younger days, I remember my father and I go fishing on Saturday mornings. I remember the visits to my cousin in the UP of Michigan each summer. I remember the whole family each Sunday going to a store downtown for nut covered paddle pops. Im sure there were many other things I did as a child that were fun but those enjoyable events that were done on a regular schedule are the ones that come first to mind.
Im happy that we are able to get together each Tuesday for these picnics. This will be our 3rd summer of having them. Hopefully as the grandchildren get older they will be one of events in their lives they remember doing and smile.
