Hugs - Are you getting enough?   by Grandpa Chuck

A hug, the physical act of holding onto someone has a special meaning to all of us. It makes you feel warm inside, increases your heart rate, comforts you in the time of need, shares the joy, welcomes you, says goodbye, thanks you, and shows that someone really cares. It is amazing that so little has been written about such an important subject.

hug (hg)

The dictionary gives us the meaning of the word:

1. To Clasp or hold closely, especially in the arms, as in affection;embrace.

2.  To hold steadfastly to; cherish: He still hugs his outmoded beliefs.

3.  To stay close: A sailboat hugging the shore.

4.  A tight embrace usually with fondness, "Hug me, please", "They embraced".

5.  Fit closely or tightly.

Most everyone remembers at one time being told that we need:

4 hugs a day for survival,

8 hugs a day for maintenance

12 hugs a day for growth

Even Bumper Stickers on cars have asked the question, "Have You Hugged Your Kid Today?"

The act of hugging has even been expanded to save the lives of those lost in the forest. The group "Hug A Tree" promotes the idea that when you are lost you "Hug Tree and Survive". Stay in the same area until found. Good advice!

"What are the basics when it comes to hugs?" You can ask the question:

Would you like a hug?

Do you need a hug?

May I have a hug?

I need a hug, would you mind?

Remember that there is no such thing as a bad hug, only good ones and great ones.

Never wait until tomorrow to hug someone you could hug today, because when you give a hug you get one right back your way.
