Johnny

Hello there! My name is Johnny, and here I am (on the right) with my brother Franky!

I started my life in a puppy mill, then in a pet shop. My tail got bitten by another dog, and I got sick from it. I wound up in the basement of the pet store with other dogs who were not expected to sell. Lucky for me, a guardian angel came along who buys dogs from pet shops that cannot sell them.

On May 30, 2002, I was turned over to IG Rescue. I was not in the best of health, and had spend most of my life in a cage or pen... thankfully, I wound up with Rita Liberato, my wonderful foster mom, who took great care of me for the next four months! I was in and out of the vet's office many times while they tried to figure out what was making me sick. I was diagnosed with mange and quarantined from the other dogs... then the vet realized that I didn't have mange at all, only a non-contagious fungus. I was all ready to be adopted to my new home.

And at the same time, my new home was looking for me! My new mom was looking for a young, male IG to be a brother and playmate to Franky, who was adopted from the Cuyahoga County pound in November 2001. Since Franky is a bigger IG, they were also looking for a bigger boy, like me. Lee Ann, the NYC rescue rep, told Angela and my new mom-to-be about me... and to prove that we were meant for one another, my new mom just so happened to be coming all the way from Cleveland the very next weekend to visit her sister in Philadelphia, where I was being fostered! My foster mom says that I have always had plenty of love to give, and just needed someone to accept it. Of course, my mom saw that right away, and I went home to Cleveland with my new family!

Franky and I are getting along great, and my potty issues, which needed a little bit of attention, are getting better already. I feel like the luckiest IG around!
