Primary
Here are the pics from my primary tensioner swap:
It turns out the chain had been carving some nasty grooves into the primary cover. I guess I need to keep a closer watch on primary chain tension.
Here's a second picture where I attempted to show the depth of the grooves. I had to tweak the contrast quite a bit, so the picture is a bit grainy.
Here are the two tensioners side-by-side. The updated part is on the right. As you can see, the updated part is dramatically thicker.
The bastard in disguise.
See the threaded part in the red oval? That's supposed to be attached to the part in the blue oval. I managed to snap the threads off this clutch cable while trying to thread it back into the primary cover. The service manual is not kidding when it says to tighten to 3-5ft-lbs. What's worse is that I was nearly done with the project. I ended up spending $28 for a new clutch cable from the dealer.
All in all, this wasn't a bad project. Other than snapping the clutch cable housing, everything went smoothly. The only hitches at all were:
The clutch cable.
Removing the shift lever.
Getting the o-ring on the clutch cover to stay in place.
The clutch cable was my fault, and the shift lever just required a little wiggling.
