Chapter 39
Standing sideways on she examined her whole body in the mirror. She was so fat! Who would want her when she was this huge? It was quite obvious that Christian preferred his girls slim, you only had to take one look at the perfect Ella to realise that.
She ran her hands down her body and smoothed the material of her top down over her tummy. So maybe she was a little on the chunky side, but then she was pregnant wasn’t she, what else was to be expected.
Mel grinned at herself in the glass, she was pregnant with Christian’s baby and very soon he would be hers.
She stuck her belly out more, leaning her hands against her back, pushing herself out as far as she could, she relaxed her stomach slightly and strained her eyes into the mirror, there was nothing there. No need to panic yet though, it took several months for a bump to show anyway.
“Happy with yourself?” a voice suddenly burst out from behind her.
Startled Mel glanced into the mirror to see a tear stained Ella standing directly behind her.
“What?”
“You know exactly what I mean.”
“I don’t have a clue,” Mel replied, turning to face the girl behind her.
“Chris.”
“What about him?”
“The baby.”
The colour drained from Mel’s face, suddenly she felt really hot and her hands started sweating. She held onto the corner of the sink behind her, but lost her grip as her wet hands slipped. Steadying herself she blew some air out of her mouth, trying to cool herself down.
“How do you know?” she suddenly managed to let out.
“So it’s true then?” Ella asked in disbelief, “for a second I thought I might be dreaming it.”
“Yes its true,” Mel’s voice came out so quiet it could hardly be heard above the sound of the party in the distance.
“Say it louder.”
“What?”
“Come on, shout it out, tell everyone in the building how you shagged my boyfriend.”
“It wasn’t like that,” Mel replied, looking firmly down at her feet.
“Oh so what was it like then?”
“I don’t want to talk about it,” Mel replied, moving towards the door.
Ella stepped in front of her, blocking her path, “you’re not going anywhere.”
Mel opened her mouth to argue, but seeing the anger in the blonde’s face she decided against it and so leant back against the sink once more.
“Fun was it?”
Mel stayed silent, hoping that maybe if she didn’t say anything Ella would get bored and just leave her alone.
“Give him a good seeing to?”
“Shut up,” Mel replied, pressing her hands over her ears, she couldn’t bear to hear her and Christian being described in such a way.
“Fuck his brains out did you?”
“It wasn’t like that,” Mel insisted.
“Course it was, you’re a little tart, how could it possibly have been any other way?”
“It was different,” Mel said quietly.
Ella forced out a laugh, “don’t be ridiculous.”
“I love him.”
“Oh right,” Ella replied, her voice dripping with sarcasm, “oh, well that’s OK then, as long as you love him nothing matters.”
“I didn’t mean to hurt you,” Mel forced herself to say, “I’m sorry, but I love him.”
“No, I’m sorry.” Ella retorted.
“Pardon?”
“I’m sorry, that you tasted a little part of Christian but you are never going to have him love you the way that he loves me.”
“He does love me,” Mel argued.
“Tell you that did he?”
“Not exactly.”
Ella rolled her eyes at her, “he doesn’t love you.”
“He does.”
Ella clenched her fists tightly together, thumping them down on the sink next to Mel.
“He doesn’t love you, he’ll never love you, you’re just some little slapper he used for sex, that’s all its ever going to be.”
“I love him,” Mel screamed out.
“You even know what love is?” Ella asked impatiently, “have you ever been so in love that you’d do anything for that person? So in love that you can’t eat and you cant sleep. So in love that the moment you find out that person has cheated on you, you stop wanting to live, it hurts so much that every breath you take is painful. You caused that Mel, and I’m never going to forgive you.”
“It wasn’t just me,” Mel replied, “it was both of us, we both wanted it.”
“Maybe that’s what you think, but to Christian it was a one night stand, that’s all you’ll ever be, a one night stand.
“We’ll show you,” Mel spat out, “we’ll be together you will see.”
“It’s not going to happen you little lunatic.”
“It is.”
“You live on a different planet,” Ella screeched out, “you’re an evil little cow and I’ve never trusted you.”
“You’re not going back to him then?” Mel asked hopefully.
“None of your business,” Ella replied, “what happens with us is nothing to do with you, I want you to just leave him alone.”
“I cant, I’m pregnant”
“Yeah, very convenient,” Ella retorted, “bet you wanted that all along didn’t you?”
“Oh yeah, cos I really wanted to get pregnant at 19 didn’t I?” Mel replied sarcastically.
“Wouldn’t put it past you,” Ella muttered.
“We slept together cos it felt right.”
“To you maybe.”
“Well maybe some of this blame is on you too,” Mel suddenly snapped back.
“What?”
“Well he was obviously missing something wasn’t he, or he wouldn’t have needed sex with me, he can’t love you that much can he?”
“You don’t know anything about us.” Ella yelled back, taking a step towards Mel.
“Hit a raw nerve?”
“You will never understand how much in love Chris and I were, you are never ever going to come anywhere near close to that, any girl that Chris is ever with he will always be comparing her to me.”
“Bit full of yourself!”
“It’s the truth, I’m his one and only, there’ll never be anyone as important as me.”
“We’ll see about that.”
Ella suddenly lunged forwards and grabbed Mel’s hair, tugging it hard she pulled her to the floor until both girls were rolling around, kicking out with all their might and struggling against each other. Mel’s head was in so much pain, her eyes were streaming, but still she carried on, scratching and kicking with all her might in the battle to win her man.
Suddenly she felt herself being thrown hard against the bathroom floor, looking up she saw that Ella was kneeling over her, she scowled at her for a moment before her hand came launching down towards Mel and slapped her hard in the face. Feeling a searing pain in her cheek, Mel yelped and quickly put her hand up to her skin – it was bleeding, the rock from Ella’s engagement ring had cut a mark in her cheek.
“You’re not going to get away with any of this,” Ella spat out, her face so close to Mel’s she could feel her angry breath against her skin, “I’m watching your every move and am just waiting for the day you get your comeuppance.”
At that moment the door burst open and Mark appeared, grabbing Ella off her he pushed her out of the room.
“You OK?” he asked Mel, picking her off the floor and hugging her gently.
Being back in Mark’s arms filled her with warmth and she immediately began to cry, clinging onto him tightly – chasing away the fear and pain until she could cry no more.
