Chapter three…
“Sarah! Wake up!”
Christie was banging on my
door in the morning and woke me up. It was waay too early, I thought,
but when I looked at my watch it was already 9pm.
“What?” I asked tiredly
after forcing myself out of bed and opening the door to see Christie’s
frightened face.
“There’s a… there’s a
spider in my room!” she squealed.
“It’s huge, and hairy and..
and..”
I groaned.
“Relax Christie,” I said.
Christie had always had a phobia for spiders, while I was never bothered at
all. So when we were on trips together like this, it was always me who had to
get rid of it.
“There are no tarantellas
here,” I said.
“Now, show me.”
“There it is,” Christie
said and pointed to her drawer.
“On top of the drawer.”
I walked over to take a
look.
“But Christie,” I said in
despair.
“It’s no bigger than me
thumbnail!”
“It’s still big enough to
scare the hell outta me,” she said from where she stood in the doorway.
“Okay, so do you have
anything I can kill the poor thing with?” I asked.
“Here,” she said and handed
me a magazine.
“Take THAT! And THAT!!” I
shouted as I banged the mag on the little spider. I took it up and carried it
over to Christie.
“Look, innit cute?” I said
teasingly.
“Take it away from me!!”
she screamed. I burst out laughing, amused by my terrified friend.
“Okay okay, it’s gone now,”
I said, still giggling.
“Not funny!”
After putting my clothes on
we had breakfast. A typical English one – toast.
“So, are we going out
afterwards?” Christie asked.
“Sure. Where do you want to
go?”
“I’d really like to check
out Oxford Street,” she answered.
“Yeah, I want that too,” I
said as I finished my meal.
Then we got ready for a day
in the city.
We took the bus down and it
dropped us off near the Street.
Christie immediately ran
into the first shop, closely followed by me. We were both serious
“shop-a-holics” and had black belts in the subject.
After coming out of that
one we were just about all over.
“Oh my God, I have to go in
there! And there.. oh, and over there….!”
After a while we found a
nice coffee bar and decided to take a break from the shopping.
I went to order us coffees
and noticed a really good-looking guy behind the counter. He looked around my
age.
He had brown spiky hair and
was very fit. And those blue eyes were stunning! And the smile… He was gorgeous
really..!
“Next,” he said and I
realised I’d been so busy looking, no, staring at him that I didn’t notice the
queue moving forward. It was my turn.
“Oh,” I said surprised.
“Sorry… um… I’d like two
coffees please.” Slightly embarrassed I looked down at my suddenly very
interesting shoes. I felt so stupid!
“Two coffees it is. There
you go,” the guy said and winked at me.
Then I paid and went over
to Christie, who had found us a table.
“What’s happened to you?”
she asked.
“You’re blushing like
hell!”
“Erm… It’s nothing,” I lied
and sat down.
When we had finished our
coffees and were about to leave, the boy behind the counter came up to us and
said,
“Hiya, I’m Ben. Are ya new here?”
“Hi, actually we’re on holiday
here. I’m Sarah, this is Christie,” I said, surprising myself really.
“Oh. Well, it was nice to
meet you,” he said and gave us a gorgeous smile that made me go all dizzy.
“Hey, I was just wondering
if you’d like to go clubbing with me tonight,” he said with a questioning look
in his eyes.
“Sure, we’d love that,”
Christie said before I had the chance to open my mouth.
“Great,” Ben exclaimed.
“So we’ll meet..?”
“Here at 8am?” Christie
suggested. He nodded.
“Fine. See ya girls tonight
then,” he said before he went back to serve the waiting customers.
“Cut guy,” Christie said as
we got out on the street again.
“I know,” I said dreamily.
“I’m convinced he’s an
angel.” I grinned madly.
“Ha-ha! Well,
that explains why you were looking like a red chilli pepper earlier,” Christie
laughed.
Then we started a
conversation all about boys, both famous and infamous, as we continued our shopping
round in the enormous city of London. One month couldn’t be enough time to
explore it all!
