“Chris please
say something?” Sara begged he looked devastated “What do you want me to say?”
he spoke at last “I’m so sorry I should have told you this weeks ago” he was
too tired to listen “Just go” he said quietly she looked into those green eyes
of his which once sparkled with devilment but now were just so sad “Just go
Sara” he added his tone a little more firm “I can’t leave you like this” she
replied “SARA GO NOW!” he ordered and this time she reached for her jacket “I’m
sorry” she said tearfully.
Tears fell from
her eyes rolling down her face as she walked “Sara” Amy called “Sara what’s
wrong?” Sara stopped walking “Chris and I are finished” she blurted out Amy
stared wide-eyed “What? Oh Sara he’ll
come round he loves you” her words although meant to comfort only made her feel
worse “I was the one who ended it” Amy looked stunned “What? I don’t understand…why?” Sara sat down on
the bench “I don’t love him Amy” she confessed Amy placed an arm around her
“Oh” Sara glanced at her “You must think I’m super bitch of the century?” Amy
shook her head “Err no…that title goes to Jasmine” Sara smiled through her
tears “At least you found out just now and not on your wedding day or worse
still after you’re married” Sara wiped away her tears “I thought you’d hate me”
Amy forced a smile “Why?” Sara took a deep breath “It’s Ben isn’t it?” asked
Amy Sara nodded solemnly “Yeah typical me…I’d two men…now I look as if I’m
going to lose them both “Why…there’s still time to tell Ben” Sara shook her
head “His flight left this morning” Amy smiled “No…it was delayed if you rush
you just might catch him at the airport least that way he’ll go off to America
knowing you care” Sara burst into tears once again “Oh Amy…what would I ever do
without you?” Amy grinned at her “You were there for me when I tried to top
myself and afterwards…if it wasn’t for you I wouldn’t have caught up on the
work I’d missed” Sara took a deep breath then stood up “Amy can I ask you a
huge favour?” Amy shrugged “Sure what?” Sara wiped her eyes then smiled “Chris
could really use a friend right now and as I know that Morven and Mark went to
the airport to see Ben off” Amy flashed her a huge smile “I’ll go round and see
him don’t worry” she insisted as she watched her friend rush off in the
direction of her home.

Amy reached
Chris’s home and breathlessly opened the door she could hear music playing in
the lounge and followed the sound “Chris” she said in a low concerned
tone. He glanced up from the sofa tears
slowly rolling down his face “Oh Chris” she said as she rushed to him her arms
outstretched in comfort…

Sara blasted the
horn of Kim’s car mouthing for the van in front of them to get out of her way
“It wont make him go any faster Sara” Kim stated as she sped up a little “Well
I’ll miss him Kim” she said as she stared menacingly at the driver when he
finally got the message and moved.
“You’re lucky I came home,” Kim stated as she changed lanes “I know…cant
you go any faster?” she said impatiently “I’m keeping to the speed limit we
want to get there” Sara tried closing her eyes to see if it made the journey go
faster “Relax” said Kim “I can’t believe he never answered my text” Kim sighed
“He can’t use his mobile while in the airport” Kim explained as they took the
turning for the airport.

Ben glanced at
his watch he’d been hoping that by some miracle Sara would have changed her
mind and would come to see him off “Are you okay?” asked Morven he forced a
smile “Sure I am…I’m just a little nervous about flying that’s all” Morven
tapped his arm “You’ll be fine” she reassured as they heard his flight being
called “Well I guess that’s me” he said sadly Morven hugged him close “I guess
so” said Mark Ben glanced at him “Take care you two” he said then lifted Megz
into his arms “Bye sweetheart” he said happily as he kissed her cheek “Be
careful out there mate” warned Mark “I will” Ben said as he looked around the
terminal “I don’t think she’s coming mate” Mark said sadly Ben agreed as he
took one last look around “Well I better go they’ve just put out the last
call…They’ll come looking for me in a minute” he smiled as he moved towards the
departure lounge Morven and Mark waving as they watched him stop to say
farewell to his family.

Chris got up
from the sofa and walked over to the window “I knew this would happen” he said
at last Amy watched him, she’d give anything to ease his pain “She’s gone to
him hasn’t she?” Amy knew she couldn’t lie to him “I think so” he smirked
“Typical” he grumbled
“Chris there’s…” he whirled round on her “Don’t tell me
there’s plenty more fish in the sea!” she shook her head “No…I was going to say
there’s nothing you can do…the pain will ease…believe me” he wanted to believe
her “Will it?” he scoffed as he came to sit next to her once again.

Sara bolted
from the car the minute they reached the entrance leaving Kim to go park, the
terminal was crowded as she pushed her way through “God where do I start” she
said aloud as she searched the screens “Which gate which gate” she muttered as
she looked around “Yes!” she cried on gaining the information she needed and
tore of in the appointed direction her heart pounding as she ran.

Ben took one
last look around then tossed his sports bag over his shoulder “By mum by dad”
he said then kissed his brother and sister “Don’t worry Ben…there’s plenty of
cute girls in LA” whispered Lucy he smiled then ruffled her hair “Remember and
write every week” she told him “I will” he told her as he walked through to the
departure lounge.

Amy put on
another CD then went back to sit next to Chris, he’d always been there for her
no matter what the problem now she was able to return the favour “Do you want
something to eat?” she offered he shook his head “You have something if you’re
hungry” he told her she smiled “I’m fine I just thought you might be hungry”
Chris stared at her “I couldn’t eat anything” he admitted sadly as he glanced
down at the gold ring Amy followed his gaze “Can’t get any more final than this
can you?” Amy placed her arm around his neck consoling him.

Sara finally
arrived to be confronted by Lucy Adams “He’s gone!” she snarled Sara recoiled
backwards “What? No he can’t have?” she
said Lucy smiled “He has you’re too late!” the child simpered wanting to hurt
this girl as much as she had hurt Ben “LUCY!” her mother snapped “I’m just
telling her” she answered in a sweet tone “That’s enough” the pretty dark
haired woman chastised “I’m sorry Sara Ben has just left he’ll be on board the
plane by now” Sara’s eyes filled with tears “No I’m too late” she sobbed as
Morven came up next to her “Come on it’s not the end of the world…you can call
him in a few hours” to Sara it felt like the end of the world Ben was gone and would
probably meet some American bimbo.
Mark left the
two women to talk hobbling along the terminal with Ben’s parents and siblings
“Why did she have to come Mark?” said Lucy “I think she just wanted to say
goodbye” Mark replied uneasily he had his suspicions if Sara was here chasing
Ben then where was Chris and had she told him it was over.
Morven fell
into step with Kimberley who having eventually found a place to park had joined
them “Well? Did you see him?” Morven
shook her head in answer to the girl’s question “Oh shit!” said Kimberley as
she placed her arm around her sister’s shoulder and Morven lifted Meghan into
her arms “Look all is not lost…we’ll think of something…it’s not the end of the
world okay?” Sara nodded “That’s what Morven said” Kimberley smiled “Well
Morven should know…her world crumbled remember? Keep telling yourself Ben is just on the other side of the earth
okay?” Sara smiled through her tears “Okay” she said as a plane past overhead Ben’s
plane.
