Anyway this chap has some bad language okay so be warned.
Irene Landers
wiped away a tear then turned another page of the family album eighteen years
had past by so quickly ever since the argument with Kim her thoughts had been
on her youngest daughter she smiled down at the photograph of her smiling up at
her, she recalled that day so clearly it had been a rare warm day and she had
gotten the call she’d longed for 18th April 1983 as she
recalled was a Monday Kim had been so excited at the prospect of having a
little sister that she insisted they go and buy her a pink teddy-bear right
there and then.
A few days
later she took her daughter home having vowed never to disclose where she came
from and up until now never had but Sara was an adult now and as Kim so rightly
said had a right to know “You okay mum?” she closed the book with a snap
putting it back into the cabinet “How was school?” she smiled as she removed
her coat “Okay”
“Good listen your Gran and Granddad are coming over tonight”
Sara didn’t mind her grandparents had gracefully declined her invitation to
attend her party that Saturday and she really wanted to see them “There’s some
cards came for you…I put them on the sideboard for you” Sara looked at the
different coloured envelopes then lifted them smiling as she recognised the
handwriting “Ben I might have known” she said but found herself smiling at
least he’d remembered she’d gone all through school that day with Chris and not
once had he wished her happy birthday or even sent her a card “Oh look
mum…Colvin made this” she went to show her mother “Did he darling…that’s nice”
Sara stared at her mother “What’s wrong?” she said on seeing her tears “Oh I’ve
just been watching some old weepy on sky” Sara shook her head as she returned
to the lounge.
Ben must have
spent hours trying to find the right card for her for the words were really
meaningful “Is that from Chris?” asked Kimberley who’d just gotten in from work
“Err no…I don’t know where Chris’s is?” she sniped Kimberley frowned “Oh” Sara
simpered as she gathered up all her cards then stormed off upstairs to her
room.
She was still
fuming at Chris when she received the text message and against her better
judgement went to meet the sender “I didn’t think you’d come” he said joyfully
“Don’t get your hopes up I’m just here because I need to calm down!” Ben stared
at her “Why what’s he done now?” she let out a deep sigh “Only forgot it was my
birthday!” Ben’s eyes widened “Ouch!” he muttered “That’s out of order you’d
think he’d know when his girlfriend’s birthday is” Ben was saying all the right
things “Yeah well he obviously doesn’t!” Ben stared at her his eyes full of
hope “I’d never forget your birthday Sara” he vowed she stared at him “Wouldn’t
you?” he smiled “No…I know everything about you…I know you love banana milk
shake…your fav actor is Tom Cruise your fav TV prog is Eastenders your fav
movie is titanic” she was impressed “Am I right?” she smiled “Yes surprisingly
you are right” he came to sit next to her “Do you love Chris Sara?” he asked
bluntly her eyes widened “I think so” he smiled “You think?” he added getting
his hopes up “Sara is there the slightest chance of us getting together?” she
frowned she was angry with Chris for not remembering her birthday “I don’t know
Ben…I do find you attractive but then again so do most of the female population
in town” he flushed “Well it’s a start…at least I don’t repulse you” she was so
confused was she using Ben to get back at Chris? “Ben I don’t want to hurt you” he frowned “You wont please Sara
just give it a go?” she mulled it over for a few seconds “Hey Sara…I’d get home
now” said Kim who was on her way to meet a friend “Why?” she replied Kimberly
grinned “Coz I’ve just seen a certain guy heading round our house with a huge
bunch of flowers and an even bigger card” Ben gripped the chain of the swing so
tight his knuckles went white “Really?” cried Sara ecstatically “Wow looks like
he didn’t forget after all sorry Ben but I’m with Chris” she said as she
hurried away leaving Ben feeling rejected and alone.
Chris was just
turning into her street when she found him “Are those for me?” she cried he
turned round “What do you think?” she rushed into his arms planting little
kisses all over his face “mmm…that’s nice” he whispered huskily as he handed
the presents over to her “Oh Chris red roses oh they’re lovely” she said as she
sniffed them then took the card Kimberly hadn’t exaggerated the card was huge
“Where do you want to go tonight you choose” she took his hand “Err…could we
just stay in My grandparents are coming?” he nodded as they entered the kitchen
“Ah so you found him” her mother said “Yup” she replied as she placed her
flowers in a vase then took Chris upstairs.
Ben hardly
spoke to her next day not that she blamed him of course she had left him high
and dry on hearing about the card and flowers but he did come to her party and
was the perfect gentleman remaining with Mark all evening “So…what’s going on?”
Mark inquired Ben stared at him “What makes you think something’s going on?”
“Because you’ve been here all night and haven’t made a move
on anyone yet…which means that the girl you fancy isn’t here or she’s off
limits which one is it?” Ben never could hide anything from Mark “She’s off
limits” Mark stared at him “So who is it?” Ben took a deep breath “Sara”
“Sara?”
Ben nodded to where Sara was dancing “Sara”
“Oh Beeeeeeen!”
“I didn’t set out to fall for her…it just sort of happened”
“Well forget her”
“I can’t it’s only a matter of time”
“What? Chris and
Sara have been an item for years”
“Yeah and times change”
“Ben you’re heading for a fall”
“I don’t think so”
“Beeeeen” Mark ground out
“Mark I know what I’m doing”
“Do you?”
“Yes I’m sorry I told you know”
“Okay point taken we’ll change the subject”
“Okay let’s talk about football”
“What?”
“Okay what would you like to talk about?”
“I don’t know”
“Great”
“Mark can we talk?” Amy joined them
“I’ve nothing to say to you Amy!”
She sat down “Please at least let me apologise”
“Look you did that already I just want to forget about it!”
“But I need…”
“Can’t you take a hint Amy Mark doesn’t want to talk to you
every time he looks at you he’s reminded of that night so just fuck off and
leave him alone!” Jasmine simpered
“Shut it…I was talking to Mark!” defended Amy
“Who are you telling to shut it?”
“You…where do you get off telling me to fuck off…look at you
sitting there acting all concerned when only minutes ago you were all over the
first bloke who showed you some attention!”
“Yeah well at least I didn’t drop my knickers for my dad!”
JAS…THAT’S ENOUGH!!!” Mark put an end to the argument.
“Well who does she think she fucking is Mark?”
“Shut up…I don’t want to hear another word”
“Fine I’m going to dance”
Amy was in
tears when Morven reached her and after being put firmly in the picture she
marched back out of the ladies pushed her way onto the dance floor until she
reached Jasmine “I want a word with you?” she barked Jasmine simpered then
turned back to her partner Morven spun her round to face her once again
“What’s your
problem?”
“You…you’re the problem!”
“Ohhhh I’m soooooo scared”
Morven suddenly lost it and had seized Jasmine by the hair
before she realised what she was doing the girl squealing as she was dragged
outside “Sara there’s a fight” Liz informed “What…great” Sara said and went to
separate them “Hey it’s Morven she’s dragged Jas outside everything’s cool”
Chris insisted “Did you stop them?” he smirked “Err…I opened the door” he said
proudly as he pulled her into his arms “Chris” she laughed as he wrapped his
arms around her drawing her close both swaying to the slow ballad now filling
the room.
