bashed out over Christmas, will do my best to update
regularly though!
Chapter 59
Mel leant over and gave him a slow kiss, then whipping back the covers she quickly got out of the
bed.
“Not again!” Chris muttered as she fled quickly and
left a cold draft running under the duvet.
”I’ll be right back” she replied, reaching down for her slippers.
“I’m getting a complex you know,” Christian said,
pulling the covers back so they reached up to this chin.
“No need”
“It’s not normal,” he muttered, “going to the
bathroom after every time we have sex.”
“I’m pregnant,” she replied idignantly as she made
her way out of the room to the bathroom, “I have a weak bladder.
She ran into the toilet and quickly locked the
door. Sitting down on the toilet lid she
paused for a moment.
This time had to be the time, it just had to be, she couldn’t take much more of this.
She took the little box out of the paper bag hidden
in her side of the bathroom cabinet, she no longer needed to read the
instructions, she knew exactly what to do.
Of course she wouldn’t be pregnant from this time,
things just didn’t work that quickly, but she could be from the time before or
the time before that, she had been constantly demanding sex off him at every
available moment, any spare moment they had they were back in the bedroom, and
it had been that way constantly for weeks and weeks now. And after every time she always came into the
bathroom and did another test, hoping and praying that this time it would be
positive.
Sitting humming to herself quietly she waited for
the result to show up. It had to be
positive it just had to be! The anxiety
was nearly killing her, she had to do something soon, it wasn’t too long until
the baby was due, and there was no baby, what could she possibly do?
Sometimes she was worried that he loved the baby
more than he loved her, so she couldnt just lose it, at the end of all this
there had to be a baby, there were no two ways about it.
She had to have a baby, she just had to.
It was time, she looked down at the test, and her
heart fell when she saw that yet again it was negative. Wrapping it up carefully in its paper bag she
slipped it back into the cabinet and returned to bed.
“I missed you,” Christian grinned as soon as he saw
her and the moment she had climbed back into the bed he had his arms wrapped
tightly around her, stroking her stomach gently, “and I missed baby.”
Normally when he mentioned babies Mel would change
the subject, or she’d jump on top of him and they’d have sex yet again, but
this time she was just too tired, let him carry on, she had no energy to play
at the moment.
“You’re quiet,” he commented, noticing that since
returning she hadn’t said a single word.
“Just tired,” she replied quietly.
“No wonder,” he retorted, “you’re a little sex
addict.”
He laughed right in her ear and she couldnt help
but laugh back. She relaxed back against
him and they snuggled up together.
“What we doing tonight then?”
“You mean, you think we should have a plan?” he
laughed, “you don’t want to just sit in and watch
Eastenders.”
“No,” she replied pretending to sulk, “as girlfriend
of a popstar I feel it’s my right to demand some kind of showbiz shmoozing.”
“Paul’s having a party,” Chris replied.
“Ooooooooh and we are going!” Mel replied, happily,
they hadn’t been out for a long long while.
“I don’t know if you’d like Paul’s kind of party.”
“Why? What
happens?” Mel asked, suddenly filled with horror, she hadn’t even thought about
what kind of party Paul might have.
“Well,” he started grinning, “it normally involves
lots of girls wearing not a lot.”
“Bet you love those kind
of parties,” she teased.
He scowled at her, “I used to love them,” he
protested, “but now I have you, I don’t need to look at any other girls.”
“Aww, sweet,” she replied, reaching in for a kiss.
“You still want to go then?” he asked, pulling
away.
“Why not, it’s got to be better than sitting around
all evening.”
Feeling a sudden spurt of energy she pulled back
the covers and moved towards the wardrobe, busying herself with chosing
clothes. When she looked up again a few
moments later he was still sat in bed, just looking at her thoughtfully. He often did this, just disappeared off into
his own little world, he wouldn’t say anything, just
sit and stare for ages. She often
wondered what he thought of when he got lost in himself like that, sometimes it
scared her that he might be analysing her, and that one day he would realise
she wasn’t quite the person he thought she was.
“Chris!” she said quickly, snapping him out of his
daze, “we have to get ready.”
An hour later and they were stood outside Paul’s large
house, watching in wonder as a woman dressed head to foot in black leather
walked past them and headed towards the loud noise that was spilling out from
inside.
“You weren’t joking were you?” Mel said in
amazement, trying so hard not to stare at all the sights around her, “he really
is bonkers.”
“Paul’s just Paul,” Chris said casually, “you get
used to it.”
They entered the house and were immediately greeted
by Paul, standing by the door, each arm around a gorgeous blonde.
“Greetings,” he said, handing them both a little
book and taking their coats.
“What the hell is this?” Mel asked, waving her
little book right under Christian’s nose in confusion.
“It’s for collecting numers in,” he replied simply.
“What kind of party is this?”
“A Paul party,” he laughed at the worried
expression on her face, “don’t worry babe, it really isnt as bad as you think.”
Taking her by the arm he lead her to the far end of
the living room and she saw with relief that Ben and Mark were sat there, lost
in conversation.
Ben looked up and gave them a warm smile, Mark looked up and then quickly looked back down at
his feet.
“You OK Mel?” Ben asked as they joined them.
“She’s recovering from the shock of her first Paul
party,” Chris replied for her, accepting the beer that Ben offered him.
“It’s different,” Mel said, turning her attention
to Ben, happy for some normality, “I think I’ll just stay here all night.”
“Alright by me,” Ben winked at her and Mel laughed.
“You alright mate?” Chris asked, turning his
attention to Mark.
“Fine,” Mark grunted in response, fiddling with his
shoe laces.
“Mark isnt a huge fan of Paul’s parties either,”
Chris explained.
Mark didn’t reply, just continued to tuck the laces
further into his trainers.
Chris and Ben both laughed at him, and happily
drained their beers as they chatted away, mostly about Paul’s past parties and
the various hilarious things that had happened at them.
“You ready to do the circle mate?” Chris asked,
when they had been sat down for a good half an hour or so.
“Fine by me” Ben replied, grinning and getting up
to his feet.
“Hang on,” Mel suddenly
shook into life, “I’m not sure I like the sound of this.”
“Don’t worry,” Chris said turning to her and
smiling, “I’ll be a good boy,” he planted a kiss on her lips and dissapeared
off with Ben.
“What’s the circle?” Mel turned to Mark, forgetting
that they werent really talking.
“They’re just going to go and say hi to people
that’s all,” Mark said simply, “no need to worry about it.”
Mel nodded in relief.
They both sat in further silence, Mark staring at
the wall opposite and Mel trying to think of some way to break the barrier that
had bulit up between them.
Getting up she joined him on the sofa that he was
sat on, sitting up close against him until she was practically sitting on his
lap.
“Mark?”
“Yep?” he responded, not being able to ignore her
now that she was so close to him.
“I’m sorry,” she wrapped her arms around his neck
and clung onto him, pressing her face against his t-shirt.
She felt his arms pat her gently on the back a
couple of times before pulling away.
“I am sorry,” she insisted, “I know you only say
these awful things to me cos you care about me.”
“Exactly,” he muttered.
“You do forgive me don’t you?” she asked.
“I don’t know,”he replied, turning to face her for
the first time, “I’m not sure how much longer I can put myself through all of
this.”
“How about if I promise not to shout at you
anymore?” she asked.
“Even if I say things you don’t agree with?”
“How about, you don’t say horrible things, and I
wont shout at you,” she said brightly.
“I told you before,” he said in frustration, “I’m
never going to change the way I feel.”
“You don’t have to keep going on at me though do
you? You could keep it to yourself”
“But you’re making a big mistake,” he said.
Mel took a deep breath, calming herself
down before they started yet another row, all she wanted was to sort all of
this out once and for all, she cared about Mark so much, and having him so
angry at her the whole time didn’t make life easy.
“Maybe that’s what you think,” she said gently,
“but I know that I’m not, and so you have to trust me on it.”
“I can’t”
“Why?”
“Because I know its wrong, you’re not meant to be
with Christian.”
“I am,” she repiled quietly,
“when I’m with him everything just feels so right.”
He turned away from her again, sighing in frustration, she reached out for him and gently held onto
his hands.
“I’d love to be able to understand what you’re
trying to say to me,” she said, “and I don’t want this to keep getting in the
way of our friendship, but you need to know that Christian means the world to
me, he’s the one.”
“He’s not,” Mark said, turning to face her again,
his hands clinging tightly to hers.
“How could you possibly know that?”
“Every person has one soul mate,” he replied, his
voice coming out in barely more than a whisper, “a person they are destined to
be with, and Chris isnt yours.”
“How do you know he isnt?”
“Cos his is Ella”
“Don’t say things like that,” she said quickly, her
voice catching in her throat.
“I don’t want to hurt you,” Mark said, clinging
onto her hands tightly to stop her pulling away from him, “but it’s the truth,
and you need to hear it.”
“You can’t say that’s the truth, what makes you the
expert?”
“It’s what I believe in,” he repiled, “and I can
see it all happening right infront of my eyes.”
Little tears were beginning to well in Mel’s eyes.
“Why are you saying these things?” she replied, trying
to shake herself out of his grip.
“Because you need to get out before it’s too late
for you.”
“I can’t get out,” she said, “I love him.”
“You don’t, it’s not real.”
“You can’t possibly know how I feel,” she sobbed,
“only I know.”
“I know you can’t love him cos he’s not yours,”
Mark continued, “only Ella can love him properly, and he will always belong
only to Ella.”
“It’s not true”
“You have to let him go,” Mark said, “you have to
let him go back to Ella.”
“And where does that leave me?” she asked, “I’ve
loved him ever since I can remember, I can’t just give
him up now I have him.”
“You have to let go otherwise you’ll never be truly
happy.”
Mel lifted up both their hands to wipe away some of
the tears that were streaming down her face.
“I don’t believe in this,” she said firmly, “your
theories don’t apply to me cos I don’t believe.”
“It’s the way of the world,” Mark insisted,
“whether you believe it or not, it’s the way things are”
“But he’s my one, I know he is”
“He’s not”
She stood up from the seat and he followed, his
hand still holding hers.
“You can’t be sure”
“I can,” he replied, “because it’s me.”
“What?”
“I’m your soul mate”
She stared at him in shock, and for the first time
he let go of her hand, she was free to leave but suddenly the urge she had had
to run had vanished.
“I love you,” he said simply.
She continued to stare at him, searching for some
kind of reason for him saying such a weird thing so out of the blue, but
looking at him she could see he meant every word, he was looking at her so
seriously saying the words that she had never heard anyone say to her with such
sincerity before.
“You’re my one,” he continued, “I’ve known for
ages.”
“Since when?” she finally uttered out.
“Pepsi”
“Pepsi?”
“The day we walked to Pepsi together,” he
explained, “something inside me just clicked and I knew you were the one.”
“But I was just a fan,” she said in amazement.
“I kept telling myself that,” he said with a small
smile, “I tried to change the way that I felt but I couldnt, you can’t change
what is supposed to be.”
“You let me believe you were my friend,”
“I had to be close to you,” he said gently.
“You let me be with Chris,” she said, “how can you
stand there and say you love me when all the time you were watching me with
someone else?”
“I wanted to stop it,” he said, “I’ve tried so many
times”
“This isnt real,” Mel muttered, looking away from
his face and down at the floor, “I love Chris and you’re my best friend, we
could never be together.”
“We could Mel,” he said, “and you’d realise
straight away that it’s the way it’s supposed to be.”
“But what about Chris, and the baby?” she asked, “he’s your friend.”
“He’s supposed to be with Ella, in time he’ll
realise that.”
“It won’t happen,” Mel said defiantly, “he’s with
me.”
“It will happen,” Mark said gently, “even if its
ten years down the line, one day he’ll realise”
“I won’t let it happen”
“You can’t stop it.”
“Shut up!” Mel shouted, “I won’t stand here and let
you talk to me like this,”
She turned on her heel and started to move away
from him, wiping away the fresh batch of tears that had started to roll down
her face
“Fine, go then,” he retorted, “but there’s one
thing I want you to know.”
She continued to walk, moving as quickly as she
could.
“I won’t wait for you forever!”
