Hello everyone! Been a while
since I had a ramble at the start of a chapter so here I go! This is just a plea for everyone’s honest
opinions on something ... is Follower dragging on a bit? Sometimes I feel it might be going a little
stale, I know an awful lot of people read it, and I really do appreciate the lovely
e-mails and comments I get about it, but I do think that its kind of lived past
its sell by date and that its readers will end up getting fed up with it!! Anyway let me know what you think.
Lou – you are a wonderful person
for reviewing every single chapter and giving me so many wonderful comments,
and an even better person for giving me such honest opinions – you’re one in a
million!
Also big thanks to Kate for
plodding on with this and leaving such lovely reviews and Shreena for embarrassing
me constantly by declaring she’s my number one fan every time I speak to her! Thanks guys xx
Chapter 62
As she moved quickly across the grass she knew
immediately it was too late, the sounds of “Summertime” were blasting across
the field, a1 were on stage and Christian was unreachable.
She slowed down slightly, no longer seeing the need
to rush, she wouldn’t be able to speak to anyone until the band were off stage,
she may as well calm down and enjoy the beautiful day that had suddenly
developed around her.
Glancing down she smiled as she noticed her feet
weaving in and out of the pretty daisies.
They brushed softly against her feet, daintily touching her skin, as she
walked she began to drag her feet slightly, loving the way that they tickled
against her. Looking ahead she could see hundreds upon hundreds
of them all stretched out across the grass like a large cushion, their golden
heads gleaming in the sunlight. It was
funny, despite sitting down and picking them only a little while earlier she
had failed to notice how beautiful they were, maybe before this moment they had
never even existed.
She found herself humming a little as she skipped
across the grass towards the gig area, loving the way that the air was moving
around her and the warmth of the sun was beating down on her body.
Had Mark really done this to her?
She knew it was true, even saying his name in her
head made her come over in shivers.
Looking down at her skin she could see it raised in hundreds of tiny goose
bumps despite the warmth of the weather.
Could it be that all he said was right?
She didn’t deny the fact that he was in love with
her, the way he had just told her was proof enough, but did she return his
feelings? Deep down did she know that what he was saying was right?
No.
There was no way that she had feelings for Mark. She was with Christian.
So why was she running full pelt down towards the
stage to speak to him then?
She stopped in her tracks, something very very odd
was going on. That kiss had been
amazing, and suddenly it seemed that her way of thinking had changed
dramatically, she couldn’t get it off her mind and everything she thought or
felt seemed to be ruled by that one moment of lust.
Lust – that’s what it was – lust.
She breathed a sigh of relief,
She had been caught up in the moment and had lusted
over the kiss. It wasn’t even a Mark
thing, it was a kiss thing. He was a
lovely kisser, and it had felt so wonderful she had got completely caught up in
the moment.
It was wrong and bad, but at least it wasn’t love.
Finally reaching the edge of the stage she
positioned herself so she could see beyond the side curtain and to where the
boys were performing. Mark noticed her
immediately and gave her a small knowing smile, against her better judgement
she smiled back and then cursed her insides for getting knotted again.
A few moments later and the set was over, they were
coming off stage.
Ben lead the way first, his shirt lifted up over
his head as he threw a bottle of water down his bare chest to cool himself
down. He was followed by Paul who
immediately punched him on the arm and accused him of being a poser.
Mark and Christian came down the stairs together,
deep in conversation, they were muttering something about chord changes. Mark looked up and saw Mel stood there
watching them, he gave her a small smile, patted Christian on the arm and then
left to join his other two band mates.
Mark was handing her the perfect opportunity on a
golden platter, he knew she was arguing with Christian at the moment, he knew
that she had felt something in that kiss, and now he was giving her the ideal
moment to break up with him, it would all be so easy, let him down gently and
then move quickly away and straight into the arms of Mark.
“We need to talk,” she started, breaking the
silence that had fallen between them.
“Yeah,” Christian replied awkwardly.
“You’ve hardly said a word to me all day.”
“I know, I’m sorry”
She studied his face for a second, his blue eyes
seemed to be full of shame, and the little dimples that she loved so much were
hiding in the sad creases of his skin.
“I forgive you,” she said suddenly.
He gave her a slight smile.
“I’ll always forgive you,” she rushed straight back
into his arms as if nothing had ever happened, and pressed her head firmly into
his chest, blocking out the world, it was back to just her and Christian again.
He reached down and planted a soft kiss on the top
of her head.
“I love you,” she said happily, “and I know you can’t
say it to me, but it doesn’t matter anymore.”
She felt him pull her in tighter, his hands gently
rubbing her back.
“It doesn’t matter if I never hear you say it,” she
continued, “cos I want you so much, and I’ll do anything to stay with you.”
She looked up at him in adoration and he quickly
covered her lips with his.
From a distance Mark watched the kiss and he knew
it was over, no matter how much he wanted her, and how much she would end up
wanting him, that kiss had sealed their fate.
Her future happiness was doomed.
