TPM Excellence International Award
Dr.Amit Ganguly, life member of IIM has recently received the TPM Excellence international award from Japan, in Yokohama city on February 16, 2006. This award is given away on a worldwide basis by Japan Institute of Plant Maintenance (JIPM), after several Japanese audits of the particular organisation concerned, which has implemented TPM as an initiative for PERFORMANCE EXCELLENCE. Dr.Amit Ganguly has been spearheading these activities in the Mukand group of industries for over past 6 years. |

Awarded "LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD" by NACE International - India Section
Dr. K. Elaya Perumal, a reputed corrosion and materials consultant and a life member of IIM, has been awarded this Life Time Achievement Award of NACE International India Section. The award was given on December 2, 2004 at the Award Ceremony during the Conference on Corrosion (CORCON – 2004) held during December 2-4, 2004 at New Delhi by NACE International India Section. Dr Elya Perumal is a metallurgist with specialization on corrosion from Indian Institute of Science Bangalore and Massachusetts Institute of Technolgy USA and has had a long career of about 40 years in the field of corrosion. He had worked on solving a number of corrosion problems during his 15 years service at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai. He is a recipient of the prestigious National Metallurgist Award instituted by the Ministry of Iron and Steel, Govt. of India and the Mascot National Award by the Electrochemical Society of India. He is retained as a permanent consultant to several major process plants. American Society of Metals has invited him to be an author for their Handbook on Failure Analysis. He is also an author of a chapter on a book called Handbook of Material Degradation to be published from USA in 2005. |

(1)Awarded "INS Medal 2003" by Indian Nuclear Society
(2)Awarded "Corrosion Awareness Award 2004" by NACE International India Section Dr. Vivekanand Kain of Materials Science Division, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai and a life member of IIM, has been awarded the INS Medal 2003 for significant contributions in the field of corrosion. The award is constituted by the Indian Nuclear Society (INS) and was given by Dr. Mohamed El-Baradei, the Director-General of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on November 15, 2004 at Mumbai. Dr. Vivekanand Kain has also been awarded the National Association of Corrosion Engineer (NACE) International India Section’s “Corrosion Awareness Award 2004” for excellence in corrosion science. This award is sponsored by the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) Ltd. The award was given on December 2, 2004 at the Award Ceremony during the Conference on Corrosion (CORCON – 2004) held during December 2-4, 2004 at New Delhi by NACE International India Section. Dr Kain is a member of the International Board of Review of the ASM Journal of Materials Engineering and Performance since 2000. |

Awarded "LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD" by NACE International - India Section
Dr. M. K. Totlani, Life Member IIM was conferred the "Lifetime Acievement Award" by NACE International - India Section at the International Conference in Corrosion, CORCON-2003, held during December 1-4, 2003 at Hotel Renaissance, Powai, Mumbai. The award is for Dr. Totlani's acknowledged eminence in the Corrosion and Wear Control profession, and for his many sided accomplishments in the development of engineered materials for mitigating corrosion and wear problems in engineering industry. |

1. Awarded "Metallurgist of the Year (2003)" by Indian Institute of Metals
2. Appointed a member of the "Editorial Board" of the Transactions of the Indian Institute of Metals Dr. Gautam Kumar Dey, Scientific Officer H, of Materials Science Division, BARC obtained his B. Tech in Metallurgical Engineering in 1979 from the Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University. He obtained his Ph. D degree from Banaras Hindu University in 1988. He was a postdoctoral fellow at University of Cincinnati from 1994 to 1996. He has won several awards for his scientific contributions. Of these mention can be made of the Young Scientist award of Indian National Science Academy, Young Metallurgist Award given by Ministry of Steel and Mines and MRSI Medal given by Materials Research Society of India. Areas of his research interest are Phase Transformation in Zirconium and Nickel Base Alloys, Amorphous Alloys, Rapidly Solidified Crystalline and Quasicrystalline Alloys, Electron Microscopy and defect Characterization and High Resolution Electron Microscopy. He has more than 150 scientific publications to his credit. |
