Darkness swept across the land
like a plague slowly making its way forward with its cloak of evil
billowing in the gentle night breeze.
She ran like she'd never done before in her life. And they called
this age 'sweet sixteen'. Right now, she wore beads of sweat all
over her face and her heart wasn't beating for he who would
woo her for her hand in marriage and a promised life time of
romance. Her heart was beating out of fear for her precious life....
They weren't far behind.
Shuffling figures making their way forward across the night-time
plains against a backdrop of a cloudy African sky barely able
to occasionally display the beauty of a full moon shining in
all its glory. Their shadows stretched out before them reaching out
like deformed clawing fingers. The night of the dead...
Bukun's hut was just ahead.... If
she could just make it!... She was crying and she was smiling -
safety! She tripped over the discarded car tyre she'd seen Bukun's
children playing with earlier in the day.
"Ele o! No-o-o-o!" Her screams echoed through the village,
but no-one dared come out of their houses to help her. Her heart was
beating so much it almost hurt.
They were upon her.
THE KOOL-AND-THE-GANG- DISCO-FANATICS WERE BACK FROM THE DEAD!
"Ce-e-e-e-le-bra-a-a-ation
time!" they chorused. The villagers all ran out. Awright, it
was so hard getting husbands to fit into those bell-bottom trousers
while the women prepared the final touches to the tons of food
they'd prepared for this event. Now they were ready. This was going
to be a grand feast!
She was the only upset one - why couldn't these villagers understand
the era of Disco ended years ago? NO-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O! She could
never stand this!
"Ce-e-e-e-le-bra-a-a-ation
time!"
The horror...
