Da'rak was one of the original Patriarch's bodyguards, and thus had access to the very best weaponry the cult was able to get its many arms on. Following its death he attached himself to Mar'ruk, who he escaped with following the cult's defeat and swore to defend with his life. He has a long standing vendetta with Inquisitor Agmar, who managed to severely mangle his legs with his power fist after killing the Patriarch.
