A very simple conversion, the only real feature worthy of note on Inquisitor Toshiro is his rifle case. It's actually made from two bits of sprue from a pack of Warhammer movement trays, stuck back to back and filed into a round shape.

The chainsword is Malicant's, but it's had its rivets filed off and the gaps between plates filled in to give it a bit more of a high-tech look.

The needle pistol is constructed entirely from plastic lasguns - the bulk of it is an old Eldar one, while the sight is the barrel from a Necromunda figure.

Inquisitor Davion Toshiro is a member of the Ordo Xenos, still young for an Inquisitor at 40 Terran years of age. Born on the mining world Opulon IV, he was 'discovered' at the age of 16 by Inquisitor Kilgore, who was on the world to put down a Genestealer rebellion.

The young Toshiro caught Kilgore's eye when he saved a group of cornered miners from four purestrain genesealers by drawing their attention with a stub gun. When they gave chase, he fled underneath a huge hopper of unprocessed ore that was awaiting loading. Waiting until the genestealers were directly underneath it, he shot out the hydraulic cable than held the hopper shut, and the genestealers were crushed under a mountain of rock.

Impressed with Toshiro's bravery, ingenuity and skill, Kilgore took him on as an acolyte and, after twelve years, deemed him ready and had him inducted into the inquisition as an Interrogator.

Although he generally adheres to an Amalathian philosophy, Toshiro is above all a pragmatist and will try to judge a situation on its own circumstances rather than any pre-fabricated opinion. He is far less formal than many of his Inquisitorial colleagues and doesn't generally stand on ceremony; where possible he believes that a simple, practical approach is best. Every minute spent organising elaborate trials or vocally preaching the Emperor's creed is another minute that could be spent chasing down heretics!

It is this tendency, to play down appearances, that has led some of the Inquisitors he has met in his short career to deem him a soft touch or even a dangerous heretic, a situation not helped by the fact that he will happily tolerate those non-humans or mutants he deems trustworthy or benevolent.

In fact, nothing could be further from the truth; in the case of genuine heresy or evil, he'll be no less swift to deliver judgement than any other Inquisitor. However, he believes that killing all aliens, or all mutants, is a thorough waste of time that could be spent on real threats.

Notes

IX: My first thought was that my Inquisitor would HAVE to be based on the Covenent model - I love it. I also knew I wanted a more practical character, who was devout but not too bothered about showing it all the time; an action man, who relied on quick thinking to get him out of (and into) tricky situations. A 41st millennium Indiana Jones, sort of.

I rolled him up as a mid-level Inquisitor, and reduced some of the results so that he's quite tough, but not so tough he can rely on it to get him through. I gave him Lightning Reflexes and Heroic, to reflect his ability to think under pressure and slightly gung ho attitude.

As an Ordo Xenos member the needle pistol chose itself - plus, what else was I going to do with all those old plastic Eldar lasguns? The bolt pistol is more of an emergency backup weapon; his main gun is his hunting rifle. It's not spectacular but it's accurate and reliable, simple and effective, in that it kills people who are over there when you're over here.

The chainsword is part of this too - it's not as damaging as a power sword but it's a big psychological advantage, being very noisy and scary. I also thought that he'd have thought ahead, and have a final ace to play in case anything really nasty shows up - hence the krak grenades. He'll never use these unless something like a Hive Tyrant comes after him, so hopefully he won't ever have to.
