S U S P E C T #2: paul stanley (and possibly the rest of KISS.)
There seems to be a lull in activity in the KISS camp these days (or maybe not, I have no idea. I don't follow them, not in the least.), so what better time for Paul Stanley to go recruiting? It's not all the members of KISS that want to disband you know, least of all Paul, who is full of youthful energy and enthusiam once again after his stint on broadway with the Phantom of the Opera. One would think that Chris would actually be *last* pick for Paul to go after, because the last thing he wants is someone who looks better in platforms and make-up than himself. (And no, I'm NOT talking about how Chris used to imitate KISS when he was a wee lad... hmmmm...)
Anyway, things didn't go as planned. Shortly after the press conference announcing Chris's joining of KISS (it was only to be Chris and Paul, 'cause Chris is able to run around on stage and play all of the other instruments too, ya know), Chris was offered Paul's part in the Phantom. Needless to say, he took it. As if Chris needed an excuse to put on masks and tights... Next for Chris in the world of broadway will be an attempt to single-handedly revive the recently retired Cats.
S U S P E C T # 1: matthew good.
...Well? If you consider the track record of Canada's mouthiest Rock Star, it should come as no surprise that he would be involved in such a torrid scandal. Let's consider the facts: 1.) Matt Good and his band have had an (arguably) friendly rivalry between Sloan for quite some time now; 2.) Matthew Good Band do, in fact, play a cover of Sloan's "Money City Maniacs" during their set; and 3.) Though not confirmed, it is believed that Matthew has been involved in the kidnapping of several other Canadian rock stars in his sordid past. Remember Age Of Electric? Of course you do, they shocked legions of devoted fans when they decided to "break up" a few years ago. Only we here at I.K.C.M. have the real story. It appears Todd Kerns, former vocalist of AOE was unanomously wanted aboard the good ship Good as a tambourine player for live shows and whatnot. After showing slight interest by performing backing vocals on several Matt Good Band albums, the band was confident he was playing for keeps. They were wrong. Todd wanted to remain focused on Age Of Electric, and politley declined the offer to go on tour with Canada's fastest rising pyromaniac freak show. The details are a little blurry from here on in, but the story goes that Matt was shocked, hurt and angered at Mr. Kerns's decision. Not being one to be stomped all over (he was a suburban ghetto child, after all), Matt took matters into his owh hands - paying off the Dahle brothers and even writing a crap load of songs for them to perform as Limblifter and keep them busy. No one knows for sure, but if "Unsolved Mysteries" was still around today, maybe Robert Stack* could have helped us out. Oh, and there's also some story about Matt Good and Chris being long lost brothers and that this was all a publicity stunt or something, but we'll tell you more about that later. Matthew Good can be seen at the MuchMusic video awards in September, so lets watch for any shifty-eyed behavior as he accepts his four hundred-and-some-odd number of awards.
