No blanket on bed, no alarm clock, no bathroom in room, but cheap as hell.

Tasty freeze-dried spheres of ice cream. First experienced on the Mall during Fourth of July weekend. Little bubbles of happiness.

At the top of a hill; bit of a climb. Nice conference room in basement (I couldn't afford to stay at the hotel).
International newsstand a block away, as well as a hidden Safeway grocery store.
Hilton Washington probably doesn't want you to remember that this is where the Reagan assassination attempt took place.

Dorothy's ruby slippers and Hanford reactor.
- Museum of Natural History
Pre-Columbian gold, skeletons, coealacanth, Hope Diamonds, Burgess shale and opals! Considered buying a stone skull, but didn't.
- National Zoo
Wander through Rock Creek Park to end up at this zoo. Personal favorites: wolves and reptiles (caimen, tree frogs, etc.)
- Rock Creek Park
winding trails next to water and bridges. Good place to commune with nature in D.C.
- Smithsonian Castle
Smithsonian's crypt, space food and Nigerian art.
