The Iron Knob Progress Association inc. has been the main governing body of the town since the 1930s. Currently it is funded by the Outback Areas Trust and is also a member of the Office of Volunteers.
The main work of the association is focused on such things as tourism, the general upkeep of the town and many of its facilities, as well as organising projects and events for the town and its inhabitants.
The Iron Knob Progress Association also publishes the "Ore Deposit" - the monthly town newsletter - and has also organised the painting of a number of public murals to add colour to the town.
