MASTER SERGEANT RICHARD J. BURT


Master Sergeant Richard J. Burt is the Aerospace Science Instructor (ASI), Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps, Bolingbrook High School, Bolingbrook, Illinois. As the ASI, he is responsible for the planning, programming, teaching and management of the leadership education curriculum for over 130 cadets. He provides opportunity for all cadet corps members of the cadet corps to participate in color guard, drill team, awareness presentation programs and other co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. He also manages facilities, equipment and Air Force uniforms valued at over $50 thousand.

Sergeant Burt enlisted in the Mississippi Air National Guard in December 1974. He elected to enlist with the United States Air Force in July 1976. He earned two associate degrees through the Community College of the Air Force while working a full-time job with the Air Force. He also earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Wayland Baptist University in 1994. His Professional Military Education includes the NCO Orientation Course, United States Air Force Supervisors Course, the Non-Commissioned Officer Leadership School, Command Non-Commissioned Officer Academy in residence and correspondence, and the Air Force Senior Non-Commissioned Officer Academy by correspondence.

Sergeant Burt retired from the Air Force on August 1, 1994. He has taught AFJROTC since the day of his retirement. His teaching assignments include Morgan County High School in Madison, Georgia and Lafayette High School in Oxford, Mississippi. He is married to the former Jennifer Ann Collins of Florence, Alabama and they have one daughter, Jaimee Ruth.
