The Black Swallowtail


The Black or American Swallowtail (Papilio polyxenes) can be spotted by the blue found at the base of its wings, and the spots that dot its body. The Black Swallowtail usually lays its eggs on parsley, fennel or anything in the carrot family, and is noted for being both beautiful as a caterpillar and a butterfly.
