2/1/02: Happy Feburary to everyone. D Nice back in the place to be on a TGIF and it is time once again for a editorial. For those of you new to the site, this is where I get to voice my opinion on some things that are going on right now in hip hop. Let's get started: |

So Kurupt is now back with Tha Row. I wish I could say that I am estatic about it but really I am not. This marks the end of one of the greatest duos in hip hop history calling it quits. Daz Dillinger has already said that he is searching for another sidekick and lets face it, Suge is not going to allow Kurupt to work with Daz since he does not have the best relationship with him. That also goes for any other DPGC member. Kurupt is now the vice president at Tha Row and he will oversee the albums of the new Row inmates. I think this is a good idea, but he still has a binding solo contract with Antra and I am sure that Kurupt will probably release work under another name. If Kurupt truly has money problems (which I can relate to) and he felt that Suge was his only way out, fine. But this may be the last time that you hear Daz N Kurupt be partners in rhyme. R.I.P. |

Staying with the DPG theme, one has to wonder how does Dr. Dre run a record label with so many artists and he does not put their albums out. 2pac and Daz talked about how long it takes Dre to put out songs and now DJ Quik has mentioned it as well. I have been patiently waiting for Hittman, Rakim, and Truth Hurts since 1999. but since that time all we have seen is Eminem and The Wash. The more I think about it, this is a similar pattern when Dre was at Death Row. Snoop was put in the forefront and other worthy artists like Nate Dogg and Lady Of Rage never came out until the buzz about them died down. Hittman is reportedly wanting out of his contract and I am sure his album will not be coming out on Aftermath any time soon with Dre executive producing everyone and their daddy right now (check out this all-star list: Ice T, Xzibit, Sticky Fingaz). My suggestion to Dre is that he should have a production company. Allow the artists to sign with whoever they like and allow them to come to Dre and Mel-Man to work on their album. This way the artists do not have to wait on Dre for their album to come out. Snoop has done this on his last 2 albums. And speaking of Snoop... |

Snoop is preparing his new album to drop this summer. Possible guests include: Eminem, Dr. Dre, Xzibit, Tha Eastsidaz and surprisingly Daz. I will believe this when I see it, but both appeared on the Pop Lockin Remix video together so you never know. I personally think that Daz almost single handedly kept Death Row and Snoop afloat as far as beats are concerned. As bad as people say the Doggfather was, Daz crafted amazing beats on that album. I'd love to see Snoop sign Daz on to the label in some capacity as a artist or a producer and have just Doggystyle producers like Dre, Scott Scortch, Fred Wreck, Daz, Meech Wells, Jelly Roll and others do the beats. Bring the majority of the DPGC members into the fold, lock these fools up in a studio for a while and see a dope album in the making. I think the DPGC is getting away from working with each other and when they were on Death Row, they used this kind of work environment to make dope albums. Look at Soopafly's album, he had almost EVERY DPGC member on it and the album is tight. Snoop, if you ever check out ILLUMINATI 2G, please for the sake of music get the DPGC back together! |
Other than that, hip hop is very slow right now. C-Bo just dropped an album last Tuesday and I must say that it is already in the running for best album this year! I will have a review of the album next week but you don't have to wait on me, go get that joint right now. Knocturnal, Baby S, D.O.C., Crooked I and many other west coast artists are dropping albums in the next couple of months and of course a new 2PAC album is coming soon so it looks like the West is picking up where it left off last year. Nas and Jay Z are still having their war of words out East, so it looks like those 2 are going to be battling for a while. I want to thank everyone for their support of the site this year. Although are visitors are down quite a bit due to the closure of the first site, keep it locked here at Illuminati 2G as we are improving the site daily. I am currently working on the Hip Hop Tournament and the Las Vegas Spotlight sections so expect both of those this month! As always check out the other sections on the site including the message board, multimedia and the shopping mall. Also check out our partner site, Funky Rhythms, on the front page for all you R&B fans out there. Until next time, stay safe and stay true (ASTMF). |
